Provenance: by direct descent to the present owner Catalogue Note: Sir David Allan Hay (b. 19 Dec 1878, d. 6 May 1957) aged 78, was a Scottish Chartered Accountant in Glasgow University, he was commissioner and Chairman for special areas in Scotland, Hon Treasurer Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Families Association in Glasgow and Lord Dean of Guild, Glasgow amongst other associations, according to Who's Who entry, edition 2016 he received an OBE? in 1919, a Knighthood in 1934 and KBE in 1939. He was the father of James Foulis Hay (see above lot)
A cased silver Cambridge University Athletics Club medal and shield by D Munsey silversmith, won by E H Wilding of Pembroke College for 120 yards handicap in a time of 12 3/5 sec in 1894 and a similar bronze medal and shield won by E H Wilding Pembroke College for the 100 yards race in 1895. Provenance: by direct descent to the present owner Catalogue Note: Eustace Henry Wilding (1873-1939) lived at the family home of Wrexham Place, Stoke Poges, nr Slough, Bucks, after studying at Cambridge he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps (special reserve), was a member of the Rhododendron Society and an author of books on Rhododendrons, E H Wilding was father in law to James Foulis Hay (see above lot)
A WW2 mentioned in Dispatches six medal campaign group awarded to Lt. Commander James Foulis Hay RNVR (b. 27.3. 1912 d. 26.4.1972), with matching set of miniatures, ribbon bars, George VI and Queen Elizabeth Coronation medal with matching miniature and a cased silver athletic medal for 2nd prize in a 1928 school 1 mile race at the Glasgow Academicals Club Provenance: by direct descent to the present owner. Catalogue Note: James Foulis Hay, son of Sir David Allen Hay studied at the Glasgow Academy, 1919-29 and is mentioned in the school's Roll of Service, he entered home service in 1942 and in North Africa 1942-3 as a Temporary Lieutenant on the Naval Staff. He is listed as serving on HMS Hannibal, a shore based naval establishment that was commissioned at Algiers in 1943. It was at this time he was mentioned in Dispatches for services after their ships had been attacked by aircraft in the London gazette 21st Dec 1943 (Slough). He was demobed in 1946 as a Lt Commander
