Jane Bown CBE (British, 1925-2014) - 'Samuel Beckett' Glatin silver print, cut down, approx. 25.5x20.5cm, mounted and framed.NB: Jane Hope Bown was a celebrated English photographer who worked for The Observer newspaper from 1949, her portraits, primarily photographed in black and white and using available light, received widespread critical acclaim and her work has been described as 'a kind of English Cartier-Bresson'. In 1985 Bown was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1995 Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), 2000 Honorary Fellowship of The Royal Photographic Society. Her exhibitions included The National Portrait Gallery, London, Tate Britain and The National Portrait Gallery, London amongst others.NBB: The subject, Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) was an Irish Avant Guard novelist, playwright, theatre director, poet, Nobel Prize literature (1969). This image was taken when Beckett was leaving the Royal Court Theatre, Slone Square, London, via the stage door after rehearsals of Happy Days starring Billy Whitelaw, as part of The Beckett Season to celebrate his 70th Birthday, April 1976.

Possibly a mixture, heavier parts will be steel. Condition slightly tarnished allover, wooden base scratched and marked, but generally good overall.
