The blade has a good polish along most of its length, the point is not quite as sharp as we would expect and the polish around the point is not has high as the rest of the blade possibly indicating some work has been carried out here. There are small signs of very light pitting at the cutting edge around the point. The blade is straight in length when sighting down the spine. There is only one very small nick just by the Habaki. The mounts show signs of age and wear, including paint scratches, small impressions and minor dents but nothing major. The binding of the grip is a little worn. The locking catch functions but the spring does not have enough strength to hold it locked up. The blade is a little loose in the grip and a new bamboo peg would help tighten things up.
