RARE SCOTTISH ARTS & CRAFTS SILVER COFFEE SERVICE each element cylindrical, tapered and with naturalistic handles, the coffee-pot having hinged-lid, raised natural turquoise knop and protective leather binding to handle, each with clear conforming hallmarks for lesser known silversmith McDonald and Creswick Ltd, Edinburgh 1926, 49.9ozs gross (3)Auctioneer's Note: McDonald Creswick were better known as an architectural bronze and metalworking foundry, silver items from the workshop are rare to the market but those silver items that were produced were done so in the Arts & Crafts style and tradition. The company began as a partnership between William McDonald (1887-1932) and the sculptor, Charles d’Orville Pilkington Jackson (1887-1973), in 1911 or 1912. Jackson enlisted at the outset of the First World War and McDonald followed in 1916 but by then he had brought Charles Creswick (1883-1965), a silversmith from Birmingham, into the business. Following the war, the foundry was incorporated as M’Donald and Creswick Limited in April 1920, with McDonald, Creswick and McDonald’s father, John William McDonald, a brewer’s manager in Glasgow, as directors.Provenance: private collection Gwynedd, by descent from the McDonald of McDonald Creswick family

Australia. Gold Mining, Queensland. Albumen print 235mm x 180mm mounted on album page in card mount. Image showing Mount Morgan, a gold mining town near Rockhampton in Queensland. Founded in 1882, the mine produced gold, silver and copper. Mount Morgan wasfounded in 1882 as a gold mining town, and holds a rich history deeply rooted in its indigenous past. Prior to European settlement, the land belonged to the Kangulu people. The town itself owes its name to the Morgan family, who secured the original gold mining leases in the area - Frederick Augustus Morgan alongside his brothers Thomas Squire Morgan and Edwin Francis Morgan. Throughout its history, the Mount Morgan Mine has yielded not only gold but also silver and copper. One notable figure to profit from this mining venture was William Knox D'Arcy. Utilizing his wealth, D'Arcy financed oil exploration in Iran, catalyzing the establishment of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, which later evolved into BP. Good contrast, very good condition. Gilbert Adams Group of 8 silver prints, 250mm x 300mm mounted on thick card. Images of ballet dancers and theatrical players signed by Gilbert Adams. Including Natila Krassovska, Keith Beckett, Belinda Wright, Gilbert Adams was the son of Marcus Adams, he was trained in the family business, often working with his father. Images are good condition. Wear to mounts.

Naval. HMS Hawkins A large album containing postcard size photographs showing the journey of HMS Hawkins, 1919-1921. Black lacquered album with an oval window on the front cover with an image of HMS Hawkins. HMS Hawkins, China Station 1919 1921, hand-painted on the cover. After completion, HMS Hawkins leaves Chatham Docks on 29th July 1919 for China. Images show the ship on trials. She then sails to Malta, arriving on 12th September, Port Said on 16th September, leaving on 18th, and arriving in Penang on 14th October via Aden, Colombo and Kandy. Various shots of the crew on board before reaching Yokohama on 14th April 1920, with views in and around Tokyo and Nagasaki including the naval yard. There are many missing images from the album, but the labels describe the journey. More views in Japan with the crew ashore, Sumo wrestlers, and onto Kobe. The journey continues to Wei Hai Wei, arriving on the 31st of May 1920. There are views up the Yangtse River and onshore showing statues and monuments. Finally arriving in Hong Kong. Approx. 270 photographs. (silver prints). The album covers are detached and the spine is missing. Photographs are in very good condition but the album has many spaces with missing images.

Photographs of Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich of the Imperial House of Romanov, Interesting group of portraits including an albumen print 105mm x 150mm with hand written inscription in Russian. Image pasted to card. A silver print 70x 105mm with hand written inscription in Russian, dated 1918 and 3 small photographs, in Tehran, one with Ukranian Cossack bodyguard. Pavlovich was exiled to the Persian front by Nicholas II, after his collaboration in the murder of Grigori Rasputin in December 1916, along with Prince Felix Yusupov. This prevented him being killed in the revolution along with his father and cousins. In Tehran he was put under the care of the British Ambassador to Persia, Sir Charles Marling to secure passage to London. Pavlovich was a well-known womaniser, having notable affairs with Pauline Fairfax Potter, an American designer and writer and, in the 1920s, with CoCo Chanel. The photographs come from the archive of Vladimir and Eugenie Kadloubovsky and direct from a descendant of the Kadloubovskys.

Crupi, Sommer and Bonfils, Albumen Prints Of Egypt & Italy, Large blue cloth covered album (320mmx400mm), containing images pasted in and unmounted including Giovanni Crupi, Giorgio Sommer, Alinari, Felix Bonfils and Zangaki Brothers, ITALY- 32 images, (165mmx230mm and 200mmx250mm) by Giovanni Crupi, (1859-1925) showing Taormina, Girgenti, cathedral interiors and church portals, Crupi was a friend and colleague of the German photographer Wilhelm von Gloeden. Crupi turned professional in 1885, working in Italy and later in Egypt. 10 images (200mmx255mm) by Giorgio Sommer including views of Siracusa, one showing a photographer. 24 Views (100mmx155mm) of Pompeii by Sommer and 18 smaller images (80mmx65mm), showing sculptural details. EGYPT-Collection of images including Bonfils and Zangaki Brothers, showing Egyptian ruins, the sphinx half buried in the sands, Mokhatam and local peoples. Along with a series of later silver gelatin prints pasted into album. EGYPT-Unmounted images by Bonfils, Zangaki Brothers showing ruins, street scenes, Abu Simbel and 2 detailed close-up images of stone reliefs. 28 (140mmx200mm) silver gelatin prints of Philae, Tomb of Rameses II, one showing camera equipment. CONDITION- Generally very good, clean, sharp images with very good colour and contrast. Minor creases to some images.
