Cattley (James Edward 1857-1942) An album of phot including family portraits views of the family`s house Pernau park club house and groups of members streets markets and buildings in the town and shipping at the docks c.250 silver prints various sizes from c.6 x 7cm to 17 x 22.5cm. many titled below mounted on both sides of leaves contemporary half leather worn 4to c.1890-95 *** Cattley & Co. were leading members of the British merchant community in St Petersburg. As a younger brother James Cattley managed the firm`s branch in Pernau north of Riga (now Parnu Estonia) a Baltic port which was free from ice for much of the year. He was also British Consul.

Knoop (Julius and Theodore) Album of photographs c including views of warehouses in Lower Mosley Street and Blackfriars Street Hamer and Townhead Mills in Rochdale and four private houses (18 of Regent House) 30 albumen prints each c.235 x 190mm. or the reverse sandwiched between gilt-bordered card mounts titled below in a substantial binding of engraved silver filigree panels over brown morocco on both covers hallmarked for Elkington & Co. blue silk moir&no. 279; doublures silver clasp large 4to (460 x 375mm.) [Manchester c.1872] *** Julius and Theodore were brothers of Ludwig Knoop who dominated the textile trade with Russia throughout the second half of the nineteenth century. Founded in Bremen the firm had offices in Manchester Moscow Bombay and New York. The silver panels of the upper cover are engraved with the brothers` names and the legends “Cheltenham 7 May 1847” and “Bremen 7 Mai 1872” those on the lower cover with the names of other members of the Knoop family.
