Lot 19

Great War 1914-15 Star Medal Trio 10th London Regiment, awarded to “1652 PTE C A WYER 10-LOND R”. Medals are accompanied by part of the original forwarding box. Private Charles Andrew Wyer was from Dalston. He landed with the regiment at Gallipoli on the 10th August 1915, he was wounded by gunshot in the right arm on 17th August 1915. He was discharged in 1916. He was awarded the silver war badge due to his wound.

Very Rare Original Suffragettes “Holloway Brooch” Given to Suffragettes who Took Part in the Infamous Hunger Strikes at Holloway Prison, the silver brooch is in the design of the portcullis which represents the Houses of Parliament, laid to the centre is a convicts arrow which has enamelled the three colours of the organisation (green, white and purple). Hanging from each end is a linked chain which is said to represent prison chains. Reverse has brooch fitting and is stamped “SILVER” and with makes stamp “TOYE & CO LONDON”. Brooch remains in very good condition with just some light scuffing to the enamel. This brooch was designed by Sylvia Pankhurst, it was awarded to Suffragettes who were imprisoned at Holloway Prison for militant activity with the Women’s Social and Political Union and were involved with the famous hunger strikes. These broches were first presented during a mass demonstration at the Albert Hall on 29th April 1909.

Victorian 17th (Duke of Cambridge’s Own) Lancers Officers Full Dress Uniform, fine example of the dark blue melton cloth body with white collar, cuffs and plastron front. Tunic collar with gold wire braid decoration, cuffs with heavy bullion embroidery and knotted officers shoulder boards with rank pips attached. Regimental pattern officers buttons with skull and cross bones to centre. Officers quilted cloth lining to the interior. Accompanied by the full dress pattern trousers with two central white strips to the legs. Full dress cross belt with hallmarked silver fittings (Bent & Parker, Birmingham, 1884), pouch with gilt metal VR crowned cipher to the centre and central white stripe to the cross belt. Officers waist belt sash with crimson backing and full dress bullion aiguillettes. One rank pip detached from shoulder board but otherwise the set remains in very good overall condition.

2nd Lieutenants Full Dress Uniform of 16th (Queens Own) Lancers, good example of scarlet melton cloth with dark navy blue collar, cuffs and plastron front. Officers knotted shoulder boards. Post 1902 pattern regimental buttons with Imperial crown. Fine quality quilted lining to the interior of the tunic, some shredding and wear to the interior collar area. Accompanied by a matching pair of full dress trousers with two yellow strips to the leg. Interior of the trousers have tailors label with inked name “A D R Wingfield Esq”. Set is also complete with waist sash, full dress aiguillettes and officers hallmarked silver cross belt and pouch. The pouch is a Victorian example with hallmarks for Bent & Parker, Birmingham 1879. The quality of the tunic would indicate it to be of Victorian period so possibly the buttons were changed after the coronation of Edward VII. Good untouched set.

Complete with its original mouth piece and hanging ring. Lower section is engraved with regimental details, “3 J R III.3”, Berlin makers details also engraved to the lower reverse. Small hole and some denting to the body, otherwise good example.

Imperial German Prussian Dragoon Reserve Regiment Officers Pickelhaube, fine example of a leather bodied helmet with gilt metal officers Dragoon pattern Prussian eagle helmet plate with silver reserve cross to the centre. Square dip peak with gilt brass trim, cruciform spike base with short pattern removable spike, gilt brass securing stars remain to the spike base. Officers scaled chin straps with officers state and national cockades. Interior complete with the original leather sweatband and officers lining. Helmet shows expected service wear but is otherwise a good example.

Brass officers pattern chinscales with single officers pattern large reichs cockade. Silver front peak trim. Fixed fibre mortar board top with silver bullion officers cockade. Interior with leather sweatband and officers pattern cloth lining. Helmet shows service wear.

Large type other ranks state and national cockades. Leather backed scaled brass chin scales. White metal domed rivets to the rear lobster tail. White metal spike base and removable brass spike. Interior complete with the original leather liner. Rear of the shell stamped “585”. Helmet shows some service wear and is uncleaned.

Third Reich SS Enlisted Mans Dress Dagger with Vertical Hanger by Carl Eickhorn, fine example having ebony grip with eagle and enamel SS emblem inserted. Nickel silver grip mounts with the reverse of the cross guard being stamped “II”. Housed in its original scabbard with mounts. Attached to the scabbard is a black leather vertical hanger, with the top clip being stamped RZM M5/71 and OLC in diamond. The double edged blade remains in very good condition with much of the original finish remaining. Etched with motto “Meine Ehre heist Treue”. Reverse side has Carl Eickhorn Solingen makers trade mark. Blade measures 21 ½ cms, overall 37 ½ cms.

Luftwaffe 1st Pattern Officers Dress Dagger by F W Holler, standard nickel silver type example with blue leather covered grip retaining the wire binding. Much of the original plating has worn from the top pommel and cross guard with the mobile swastikas not retaining any of the gilt wash. Housed in its original blue leather covered scabbard with nickel silver fittings. Original hanging chains attached to the scabbard with the top clip being marked Ges Gesch and OLC in diamond. Double edged blade with engraved name of the original owner, “HANS KORNFELD” and F W Holler Solingen makers trade mark. Blade retains much of the original finish. Blade 31 ½ cms, overall 48 ¾ cms.

Third Reich RLB (Reichslufschutzbund) 2nd Model Officers Dress Dagger with Hanging Straps by Paul Weyersberg & Co, good example with black leather covered handle having black enamel swastika on eight pointed star to the centre. Nickel silver top pommel and cross guard with short wing eagle and voided swastika. Housed in the original correct pattern scabbard with black leather covering and nickel silver mounts. Mint condition blade retaining nearly all the original polish and cross graining. Paul Weyersberg & Co, Solingen makers trade mark to the base of the blade. Dagger is accompanied by the very rare original leather hanging straps complete with the metal clip fittings. Reverse of the top hanger clip is stamped RZM M5/10. Dark patina to the dagger fittings. Blade 24cms, overall 39cms. Very good example of this scarce dress dagger.

Black celluloid grip retaining the original wire binding. Remains of the officers leather and silver wire thread dress portepee remains. Housed in its black anodised scabbard with single hanging ring. Plain slightly curved single edged blade having fuller to the back edge. Ernst Pack & Sohne Solingen makers trade mark to the base of the blade. The blade measures 81 ½ cms, overall 96cms.

Housed in its original scabbard with hanging rings. Attached to the scabbard is a original pair of the blue backed officers hanging straps with silver wire brocade. Near mint condition double edged blade with etched decoration to both sides. The blade measures 25cms, overall 40cms.

Third Reich Iron Cross 1st Class by Klein & Quenzer with Case of Issue and Outer Card Packaging Liberated from Adolf Hitler’s Reich Chancellery Berlin July 1945, mint condition example, with the cross retaining all of the original frosted finish to the silver frame and all of the black finish to the iron core centre. Cross is complete with its original pin and catch fixing, stamped “65” to the pin. A piece of Iron Cross 2nd class medal ribbon, picked up at the same time has been mounted to the reverse of the cross. Housed in the original leatherette case with silver leaf outline of the award to the top of the lid. The cased award is housed in the original printed card outer packaging which shows some wear and has tape repairs. Reverse of the outer case is inked “Taken from Hitlers Reichchancellery Berlin July 1945” and signed by the soldier who collected it. Superb condition example.

Third Reich Iron Cross 2nd Class in Original Paper Packet of Issue, fine near mint condition example of the Iron Cross 2nd class with much of the silver wash finish remaining to the frame and black iron centre. Cross is fitted with original ribbon and complete with the original tissue paper wrapping. The award is housed in an un-maker marked blue paper packet of issue with stencilled “Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1939”. Award ring not stamped with any makers number.

Third Reich German Cross (Deutsche Kreuz) in Silver with Original Box of Issue, superb example of a silver grade German Cross retaining much of the original silver frosted finish to the wreath and blackened finish to the starburst. Perfect undamaged enamel centre swastika. The cross is a four rivet example which is complete with the original pin and catch fixing to the reverse. Underside of the pin is stamped with makers number “20” for C F Zimmermann. The cross is housed in its original leatherette presentation case. Around the top of the case is a band of tarnished colour which originally would have been silver. This is a fantastic example of a very rare to find award. Fewer silver grade orders of the German Cross were awarded compared to that in gold.

Scarce Cased Luftwaffe Spanish Cross (Spanienkreuz) in Bronze Without Swords, fine example retaining much of the original bronze finish to the obverse and reverse of the award. Complete with its original pin and catch fixing to the reverse. Housed in the original green leatherette case with silver tooled LDO mark to the centre of the lid. Very good example overall.
