Marine interest - A walking cane made from timber from the HMS Royal George the tapered cane with turned brass knop inscribed `Royal George Sunk 1782 Raised 1840`, the top finely engraved with an image of the ship in distress, with silver mounted chain slot and brass ferrule, 37½in. (95.5cm.) long. * HMS Royal George was a 100-gun first rate ship of the line, launched in 1756, at which point she was the largest warship in the world. She saw service during the Seven Years War but sunk during routine maintenance in 1782 whilst anchored in the Solent off Portsmouth, one of the most serious maritime losses ever to take place in British waters.
