A rare and important collection of Bristol related items, all pertaining to the Lord Mayor Edward Malachi Dyer, OBE. Lord Mayor of Bristol 1926-27 and Chairman Of The Port Authority in 1924. This collection comprising; a solid silver hallmarked presentation salver given to Dyer on his 80th birthday and dated 1936. Engraved with the following notation; 'Alderman Edward M Dyer OBE. JP, Chairman of the Port of Bristol Authority by his fellow citizens on the occasion of his 80th birthday as a mark of their keen appreciation of the able untiring & successful services rendered by him to the City & Port of Bristol throughout his 34 years membership of City Council & Port Authority, 12th December 1936'. Hallmarked for: Walker & Hall, Sheffield, 1935. Measures approx 36cm wide. Weighing approx 1,400g.  Along with the accompanying presentation book, dated 16th December 1936. Fabulously hand painted throughout with scenes of Bristol and various decorations. Title page reading ' This Book contains the names of those citizens of Bristol who have subscribed to the presentation of Alderman Edward M Dyer, OBE, JP, Chairman Port Of Bristol Authority, of an inscribed silver salver and a cheque in recognition of his great services to the City & Port of Bristol during the past 34 years.' The book containing all hand signed signatures of those present, including the Lord Mayor, Sheriff of Bristol and others.  Also present, is the original presentation cheque awarded to Dyer for the sum of Two Thousand Guineas. Also beautifully hand painted and inscribed. This collection also features Dyer's official declaration granting him the role of Mayor Of Bristol, and a photograph of Dyer in mayoral regalia.

A rare and interesting antique hallmarked silver bowl, presented as a gift from ' Colonel Marling, VC, 1909 .' The bowl with hallmarks for Samuel Watton Smith & Co, London, 1905. Weighing 172.6g, the bowl is decorated with a scalloped edge border, and oak leaf cartouches to the base. A central plaque bears the aforementioned inscription. It is presumed that this bon bon dish was given to the family of the original owner (now deceased) who lived in the Forest Of Dean very close to Sedbury Park House where Sir Percival Marling lived. Measures approx; 7cm tall.  Sir Percival Scrope Marling (1861-1936) was the eldest son of Sir William Henry Marling, Baronet, of Stanley Park, Stroud, Gloucestershire, born on 6th March 1861. He was educated at Harrow and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. On 11th August 1880, he was gazetted as a Second Lieutenant into the 3rd Battalion, 60th Rifles, and served with that regiment throughout the First Boer War of 1880-1881, being present at Sir George Colley’s disastrous attack on Laing’s Nek, and the severe conflict on the Ingogo River. On 13 March 1884 at the Battle of Tamai in the Sudan during the Mahdist War, Lieutenant Marling risked his life to save that of a private of The Royal Sussex Regiment who had been shot. For this he received the Victoria Cross. His citation reads: 'For his conspicuous bravery at the battle of Tamai, on 13th March last, in risking his life to save that of Private Morley, Royal Sussex Regiment, who, having been shot, was lifted and placed in front of Lieutenant Marling on his horse. He fell off almost immediately, when Lieutenant Marling dismounted, and gave up his horse for the purpose of carrying off Private Morley, the enemy pressing close on to them until they succeeded in carrying him about 80 yards to a place of comparative safety.'
