A pair of George II Irish silver salvers, by Robert Calderwood, Dublin circa 1740, circular form, the border with masks, shells and foliate scroll motifs, the centre engraved with an armorial within a foliate cartouche, on three scroll feet terminating in pads, scratch initialled to underside `28-7` and `28-10`, diameter 27.5cm, approx. weight 55oz. (2) Provenance: purchased from Bonhams, Knightsbridge, Fine Silver, 11 March 1997, lot 271. The arms are those of Carr of Dublin, impaling Gifford quartering (?) Redmond.
A pair of George III cast silver candlesticks, by Thomas Heming, London 1770, fluted tapering circular columns, with leaf capped shoulders, spool shaped capitals, on raised square bases with gadroon borders, engraved with a crest, height 27.5cm, approx. weight 46oz. (2) The mitre arising from a ducal coronet is for the Bishop of Durham, who from 1752-1771 was Richard Trevor.
A pair of George III Irish silver salvers, by John Lloyd, Dublin 1782, circular form, swag and bead border, the centres engraved with an armorial, on three shell bracket feet, the undersides with scratch weights `31=2`, and `31=12 1/2`, diameter 30.5cm, approx. weight 61oz. (2) The crest and shield are recorded for LAMBERT of Carnagh, co.Wexford. It stems from the 1683 grant of arms by Carney, Ulster King of Arms, to Patrick Lambert of Dunmain, High Sheriff of co. Wexford. Provenance: purchased from Sotheby`s, London, `The Irish Sale`, 16 May 1996, lot 314.
A George III silver coffee pot, maker`s mark A.K, struck thrice, possibly Irish circa 1760, baluster form, scroll handle, domed hinged cover with a later rampant lion finial, chased foliate decoration with a Chinoiserie figure, birds, a cherub, and foliate scroll decoration, on a raised circular foot, height 32cm, approx. weight 40oz. Provenance: purchased from Christie`s King Street, Fine Silver, 23 may 1990, lot 140.

(2) Provenance: purchased from Sotheby`s, London, Fine Silver Sale, 1 November 1990, lot 386. The crest is that of Skeys, O`Mulligan, Mooney, Scanlan, Athy and other families.

(4) Provenance: purchased from Christie`s, King Street, Fine Silver 10 July 1991.
A George II silver serving plate, by George Hindmarsh, London 1742, circular form, grapevine and reeded border, engraved with an armorial with foliate scroll mantling, scratch weight to underside `55:10`, diameter 37cm, approx. weight 54oz. The shield is that for John Bowes of Strearlam Castle, Co. Durham who was born before the marriage of his father John Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, to Mary Milner who died the day after their marriage in 1820. As his parents had no Scottish domicile their marriage was not legitimised in Scottish Law and at the 10th earl`s death in 1860 his English titles became extinct and the earldom devolved upon their next surviving son, Thomas. John Bowes was granted this Bowles shield with a wavy border for illegitimacy in 1830, and died in 1885 leaving his Durham estates to his cousin, the 13th earl.
