Low countries, Guy de Dampierre (1279-1305), Sterling - 'enigmatic' pollard, 0.98g, bare-headed bust facing, double saltire stops omitted after marchio, g marchio namvr, rev. mon eta mon tes, long cross pattée with trefoil of pellets in each quarter (Mayhew 127/128), good metal quality, lightly toned, a most pleasing example, extremely fine and very rare These enigmatic pieces with an obverse of Guy de Dampierre paired with a reverse attributing the piece to John d'Avesnes first came to light in the 1841 Marchienne-au-Pont (Hainault) hoard.
