A silver mounted Highland black leather shoulder sword belt, heavy silver rectangular plate bearing applied eagle on rock, with large thistle spray at the base, in the foreground a plough in high relief on ploughed field, plain outer frame 2¼” x 3½”, HM Edinburgh 1837, slide embossed with thistles, Glasgow part HM, the tip in the form of a deer’s head with red glass eyes. An ERII Staff Sergeant’s blue peaked cap of the Grenadier Guards, 3 lines gilt braid to peak, gilt and silver plated badge, PL chinstrap with staybrite buttons; a similar Grenadiers cap, brass peak binding and badge; and another for bandsman, single line of braid to peak (no badge or chinstrap). Imperial Russia: War of 1812, silver medal as issued to officers. Obverse the ‘all seeing eye’ with date below; reverse: inscription in Russian text translating to “Not for us, Not for us, but in honour of thy name”. Diam 27mm, with integral suspension loop. Fine. Plate 8. Note: It is stated that following the Battle of Borodino (September 5th 1812) Napoleon lost 50,000 men, 47 Generals and approx 1 in 10 French troops survived the Russian campaign.
A decorative North African flintlock blunderbuss, 31” overall, 2 stage swamped steel barrel 16½”, muzzle diameter 2½”, the octagonal breech with Liege proof mark, decorated overall with silver overlaid and engraved scrolls and panels; the scroll engraved trade lock with Spanish style cover to frizzen spring; fullstocked with continental style brass mounts; the butt and fore end decorated overall with bone plaques and brass pique studs, with bone tipped wooden ramrod. WO & GC (the lock and barrel cleaned bright overall, some restoration to fore end. Possibly Belgian made for the North African market, the decoration applied in North Africa. Plate 7
An old, possibly 19th century, theatrical sword, the 18½” gladius type blade from a French sidearm, the brass hilt with sheet brass crosspiece, spiral grip and disc pommel, in its brass mounted scabbard with 4 hanging rings and velvet covered panels. GC (verdigris to metalwork, some age wear overall) , and a silver plated military style bugle, stamped “Premier 1940” and “12 Kings/6”, green cords, basically GC (minor damage and repairs). A boxed and glazed gorget and epaulette belonging to Leiutenant James Murray 20th Regiment, together with a framed print of a photograph of him. The gilt gorget of universal pattern, the silver lace epaulette with crowned XX button. Good Condition. Plate 9. Note: The caption under the picture and ivory tablet with the boxed items reads “Lieutenant James Murray XX Regt mortally wounded at the Battle of “Orthes” Feb 27th 1814. Died of wounds March 7th 1814 aged 20 years. Eldest son of John Murray of Wooplaw, Roxburghshire.
A good interesting 6 shot .38” rimfire Colt factory made version of the Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver, number 1729, 7½” barrel with New York address and with Mason cartridge ejector, the frame lacking Colt or Patent date markings, trigger guard stamped “36 Cal”, and the butt having varnished wood grips. The barrel, cylinder and frame bear post 1925 London proof marks for foreign arms, frame also stamped “Not English Make”. GWO & Clean Condition, retaining much original silver plate to cylinder and frame, other parts retaining traces only, the hammer retaining most colour hardened finish. See internet
A heavy quality officer’s gilt and silver plated shoulder belt plate of The 15th (York East Riding) Regiment, slightly rounded, burnished plate with cut off corners, applied silver plated beaded rim, in the centre the Yorkshire rose within a crowned Garter and motto on a cut star, below which a small “15” in an oval, buff leather liner, hook and 2 stud fastening, 3¼” x 2½”. Very Good Condition for age. Plate 10
