LARGE RUSSIAN ROYAL PRESENTATION NEOCLASSICAL SILVER CUP, St Petersburg 1831, makers mark PM probably for M. A Muller, with flared rim and scrolled handle with centurion headed knop, applied with three canted rectangular vignettes above a continuous frieze of classical dancers, amorini and maidens playing lyres at the base, engraved inscriptions: 'Presented to WALTER HARRISON by the Princess Catherine Dolgorouky 1852' and reversed with 'And by his Widow to ROBERT HARRISON Novr. 25th 1880', 16.3cm high, 10.2 ozt Provenance: Walter Harrison, tutor to the Russian Court, and thence by descent, South Wales. Auctioneer's Note: Ekaterina Mikhaïlovna Dolgoroukova (1847-1922) was a noblewoman who became the mistress of Tsar Alexander II, with whom she bore four illegitimate children in the 1870s. Walter Harrison was tutor to the four illegitimate children. Ekaterina subsequently married the Tsar in 1880. Cf.
