Michael Mills (BBC's Head Of Comedy from 1967-1972) - hallmarked silver presentation cup ' To Michael From Jayare & Jayell '5 Past 8' 1956'. 5 Past 8 was a variety show. Hallmarked for London, 1896 with a Young Victoria bust. Maker's marks Chawner & Co. Weight 194g, measures 10cm tall.  Valerie Leon was married to Michael Mills from 1974 to 1988 and this is from their own private collection. Unique piece of BBC related memorabilia. 'Five Past Eight' was a variety stage show playing at the Alhambra theatre, Glasgow, Scotland - Mills was the director.  Michael Mills (13 May 1919 – 7 January 1988) was an English television producer and director who served as the BBC's Head of Comedy from 1967 until 1972. He worked on many classic comedy productions including: Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Dad's Army, Up Pompeii and many other productions.  This auction is part of a live event - An Evening With Valerie Leon - at Bristol Aquarium IMAX Cinema on 27th October 2023.
