Roman TOT Ring.Circa 1st-4th century AD. Silver, 6.91 grams. 24.91 mm, internal: 19.90 mm. A large heavy gauge D-shaped finger ring with wide bezel and flared edges on both sides that form a border around the circumference. The details of the ring are very worn but still visible, TOT across the bezel with two rows of three punched dots running down the shoulders. Ref: Catherine Johns, The Jewellery of Roman Britain. Saxon Terminal. Circa, 7th century. Copper-alloy, 3.77 grams. 35.14 mm. An Anglo-Saxon terminal formed of a circular panel with a rectangular projection on one side. The face of the piece is decorated with four roundels between a rhythmic interlace pattern of insular style, forming a Celtic cross with trefoil terminals on each arm. This design resembles those seen on Silver sceattas of the same period. Ref: Tony Abramson, Sceattas List. 27-31, page 134. From an old English collection.
Viking Stirrup Mount. Circa, 10th-11th century AD. Copper-alloy, 18.78 grams. 45.84 mm. A zoomorphic stirrup mount of class A. The decorated face consists of a large zoomorphic head at the apex with looping tendrils on each side defined by open-work circular perforations. The base has a projection on each side forming stylised animal heads. In the middle of the piece are two patches of niello with silver inlay. Ref: Williams, class A, type 8. Anglo-Saxon Silver Strap-EndSilver, 7.43 grams, 40.72 mm. An antique casting of an Anglo-Saxon zoomorphic silver strap-end. The front of the piece is detailed with a central panel enclosing a stylised beast bordered with a series of annulets. Above are two rivets and below, a terminal in the form of an animal head with large ears and eyes projecting from the sides of its head. Property of a private collector.
Post Medieval Seal Top Spoon.Circa 16th century AD. Copper-alloy, 168 x 49 mm. A complete silver or tin plated bronze spoon that has survived in remarkable good condition. Formed of a large oval bowl and long faceted tapering handle that terminates in a very ornate baluster type seal knop. The bowl has a makers mark in the form of a flower head within a circle stamped just below the join where the bowl meets the handle. Ref: Homer 1975, p. 38.
Medieval Silver Gilt Ring.Circa 15th century, Silver, 3.88 grams. 26.97 mm, internal 17.44 mm. A beautiful heavily gilded medieval silver ring set with a turquoise stone. The quatrefoil-shape bezel with four deep D-shaped depressions and curving base looks very much like a flow head as it sits upon the flattened shoulders of the shank. The shank is faceted, wide at the join with the bezel then tappers away retaining its shape around the entirety of the loop. Ref: Scarisbrick & Henig, Finger Rings. p.57. fig.1.
