A very rare Victorian novelty silver sewing etui combined with a vinaigrette to base Sampson Mordan & Co, London, 1874, modelled as a Policeman’s Bullseye lantern / lamp, the hinged cover opening to reveal a silver gilt interior for pin storage around inner rim, pull-out bobbin with cotton reels and tape measure, topped by thimble, the hinged base housing the silver gilt vinaigrette with beautiful foliate pierced grill, stamped with retailer ‘THORNHILL’, attached handles and clip, stamped with diamond lozenge mark, 2 5/8in. (6.7cm.) high, weight 3.8 tr.oz. *Crystal glass with small inner fracture, otherwise good.

Colonel Rait 3 x 2½in. (7.6 x 6.3cm.). Accompanied by a framed set of photographs showing the aftermath of the torpedoing of Lt. Colonel Rait's passenger ship, "Arabia", on 16th November 1916 south of Cape Matapan, Greece, and a framed certificate from the London Hospital conferring the privilege of Life Governor. *Good condition.
