A Superb Set of Three George I Scottish Silver Casters, Alexander Edmondstone, Edinburgh 1723, assay master Edward Penman, of octagonal form with domed girdled foliate pierced cover and baluster octagonal finial, one blind engraved for mustard, each crested below the motto FORWARD OURS, one 19cm high, two 16cm high, 27oz 12dwt Each base fully marked, the covers unmarked. The blind mustard with repairs to the top of the cover. The smaller caster with added plates to the interior to reduce the pierced hole size for refined sugar. A good colour and each with a period crest. 020513

Split to paten edge. Repairs to the rim of the bowl and where it joins the stem. Repairs to the foot. Does not appear to have had presentation inscription. A 19th Century Bird Automata on Plated Stand, the tiny green, blue and red bird upraised amongst faux foliage and heathers, from a grass effect base inset into a silver plated table mount decorated with masks, infants and stylised animals, on square section legs, 15cm high, with key Overwound. Legs bent. Some silver plate wearing off. The mechanism may be a marriage to the base? One of the bird`s feet has off the stand which has been tampered with and the foliage is perhaps incomplete and tired. Play lever now missing, leaving a gaping hole on the underside of the mechanism. There has been some repairs to the grassy ground (centred on one long side). Sold a/f. 210513

A Chinese Silver Inlaid Bronze Figure of Guanyin, signed Yutang Shisou, Qing Dynasty, the goddess of mercy seated looking gently downwards, her forehead with a silver urna, wearing jewellery and flowing robes inlaid with silver wire cloud motifs, holding a scroll in her left hand, upon a rocky base and flanked by a vase on a rocky protuberance, the back with silver wire inlaid four character inscription, 36cm high Small casting hole/puncture on her left sleeve, near wrist. The base has a piece of green cloth glued to the base which now has a copper sheet across it (possibly later). Some casting faults on the back of her robes and a firing stress crack. Some rubbing to extremities. Slight dent to the rim of the small vase at her side. 130613

A Japanese Lacquer Decorated Half Egg Shell Bowl, late Meiji period (1868-1912), internally decorated with three fish amongst chrysanthemums in tones of gold and silver against a black ground, externally with black squid and a slender fish amongst scattered sea shells, the whole raised on three shell carved feet, 6cm high, 14.8cm wide Some rubbing of the black ground on the interior background lacquer. Lacquer stress crack across the largest of the fish. 3cm crack in the egg shell on the rim. Rubbing of gilding on the rim and generally light rubbing and scuffing. All three of the shell carved feet (which are stained ivory) are good. Some scuffing of the shell gold lacquer. 210513

A William IV Brass Inlaid Rosewood Writing Box, by D Edwards, King Street, Holborn, rectangular, engraved with initials to the lid centre cartouche, brass edged and strung, opening to reveal a green leather gilt tooled writing slope (applied beneath with two different original maker`s labels, and also blind stamped into the wood with the maker`s name and address), pen tray and two compartments for silver mounted ink and sand bottles (maker`s mark AD, London 1831), with Bramah locks and flush side handles, with exterior and interior keys, 38.5cm wide Sand (or nibs) bottle with bad upper rim chip. Silver lid good with good clear hallmarks. Both glass mounts appear to be quite heavily scratched. One edge of the raised interior writing slope lid has come away from its gummed seating and small green silk pull is slightly tatty but still operable. The other side, the silk pull has come off completely. The box still opens quite easily. Both paper labels are good and the wood stamped internally is clear. The case of the box is in fully restored condition (small repair noticeable rear left basal angle) and some odd scratches and minor dents. 310513
