A pair of 46 bore percussion boxlock pocket pistols for top hat caps, by Fisher of Bristol, 6” overall, turn off barrels 1½” with fern tip engraved muzzles; Birmingham proved; the frames engraved with scrolling foliage and “Fisher, Bristol” in oval cartouches, with top safeties and hidden triggers; the finely chequered rounded walnut butts with vacant escutcheons and silver lion mask caps. Good Condition, one in Good Working Order, the other scear spring defective; in a later fitted oak case with basic quality embossed lacquered brass flask, steel pincer ball mould (pitted), a Joyce cap tin and some lead balls. Zig -zag machine sewn SS pattern eagle on upper left sleeve; SD diamond shaped badge and machine sewn black silver edged cuffband on lower left sleeve; slip on green piped black shoulder straps; War Service Cross ribbon in buttonhole. A good early 19th century Indian axe zaghnal, blade 8”, reinforced towards point, pierced at the base with large silver washed copper inlaid floral panel, similar small panel to socket, the peen in the form of an open pagoda, spear pointed finial to top of darkwood stem inlaid with 6 plated florets in each side, long scale ornamental ferrule with pagoda and ring to tip, 26” overall. A large Zulu knobkerry from the battle of Ulundi 1879, heavy 2 tone head on darkwood haft with small applied silver shield engraved “Recovered at Ulundi Zulu Land (sic) 1879 by J.N. Crealock”, 26” overall; with photostat picture and details of Lt Colonel John North Crealock, CB (1836-95), who was on the staff of Lord Chelmsford during the Zulu War. A Household Cavalry officer’s levée dress sword, c1840, straight, fullered blade 33” (tip slightly shortened) with maker’s name “Andrews 9 Pall Mall London” in etched panel on one side at forte, gilt semi boat-shell hilt (the inner portion of the guard officially removed), reinforced edge, upswept quillon, the guard screwed into ball pommel, silver wirebound grip, in a non matching brass mounted leather scabbard. Good Condition, the blade retaining much original polish. Plate 43

A 19th century bowie knife, blade 10½”, marked “Broomhead & Thomas Celebrated American Hunting Knife” at forte on one side, with a later etched panel, running the whole length of the blade, and depicting an antelope chased by a dog under a tree, in a panel of foliage with a bugle and hunting horn “trophy” at the lower end, shaped silver plated “coffin” type hilt with plain crossguard and side straps up to frustrum shaped pommel engraved with a stylized sunburst on both sides, diced horn grips with a small panel on one side scratch engraved “Rio c 1868”. A good 18th century silver mounted 16 bore Turkish miquelet flintlock gun, 55” overall, the smooth bore octagonal barrel 41” with overlaid silver bands at the breech and muzzle; typical lock overlaid with silver scroll and foliage, bridle terminating in a writhen brass knob just behind the cock; banded Circassian walnut(?) fullstock having 7 narrow silver bands securing the barrel, silver fore end cap, and with pierced and engraved inlaid silver panels of entwined straps and scrolls, the area above the lock and around the tang covered with engraved sheet silver, separate butt heel with silver strip engraved with inscription and date (?); with button trigger and original iron ramrod. A scarce French 20 bore officers’ Model 1740-1750 Gendarmerie de France flintlock holster pistol, 18½” overall, barrel 11¾” with top flat and octagonal breech; stepped lock with flat swan neck cock and squared pan with unbridled frizzen, the plate with engraved decoration and name “La Chai-- Paris”; fullstocked with steel trigger guard, ramrod pipes and long spurred butt cap with silver grotesque mask finial, and with openwork silver sideplate incorporating laureate bust, and silver escutcheon surmounted by coronet and incorporating military trophies. Good Working Order and Quite Good Condition (repairs to fore end, replacement ramrod). Plate 58
A rare Third Reich TeNo (Technische Nothilfe) Leader’s dagger, the blade etched with the TeNo eagle and original Eickhorn logo, and numbered 0970, the hilt with oxidised silver finish, orange grip and silver bullion portepee, in its scabbard, the iron throat also numbered 0970 (slightly indistinct owing to pitting of the throat), with its original dress pattern hanging straps, with distinctive cogwheel buckles. Good Condition. Bowman describes this as “probably one of the rarest of the Third Reich production daggers”, as the numbers produced were relatively small.

†An officer’s lance cap of the Bedfordshire Imperial Yeomanry (1901), top of skull in black patent leather with gilt leaf ornaments on the corners, upper sides of skull in ribbed blue cloth, with gilt metal strips on four angles, gilt metal gimp boss with plain ball button in centre. Gilt metal band around centre of cap, peak of leather with metal trim, the badge consists of usual gilt rayed type with a silver wreath of laurel and oak spray surmounted by a post 1902 crown. In the centre the silver badge of the regiment being an eagle with a castle on its breast. Black swan feather plume with gilt socket, ring chinchain. Very Good Condition Plate 15
