Mihaly Mihalcz Ersebet Ano. 1623'. the scrolling handle with caryatid above scrolling terminal to base. Lacking thumbpiece. The slightly domed, stepped, hinged cover with later cast foliate finial. The base with applied coin; maker's mark AF and scratch number. Traces of other marks - rubbed.29.5cm high. 27.9 oztNote a near identical tankard (with differing finial) is illustrated as one in a series of stamps. This tankard is recorded as a silver tankard by Milhaly ToldalaghyThe collection is known as Hungarian Goldsmiths' Art circa 1970 At some point, the tankard has been dropped on its cover which caused the loss of the finial and the thumb piece. The current finial is a replacement. There is a split to the cover and it is overall misshapen not closing flush. There is a dent to the bottom of the body at the front.
