An unusual French silver mounted 38 bore cannon barrelled percussion travelling pistol, converted from flintlock, 9½? overall, barrel 5¼? with 3½? turn off section, the plain rounded lock with safety bolt and traces of maker?s name or initials; the walnut halfstock with good quality silver sideplate and trigger guard chased with trophies of flags, armour and foliage, and flat butt cap with lion mask. A pair of unusually long 28 bore brass barrelled silver mounted flintlock holster pistols by Knubley, London, 17½? overall, 2 stage barrels 12? with London proofs, ?improved? at a later date by the addition of hand operated 6½? folding bayonets on the left side with no means of securing them in the folded position, stepped brass locks engraved with maker?s name, sunburst, and flowers on the tails, frizzen springs with rollers, and with plain walnut fullstocks, flat sided butts partly chequered with quatrefoils in the chequering, the silver mounts include simple butt caps and trigger guards engraved with floral panel and with pineapple finials, horn tipped wooden ramrods. Brunn, 12½? overall, round twist barrel 6½? with gold line at breech, platinum touch hole and top flat engraved ?56 Charing Cross, London?, flower engraved breech tang with rearsight, flat stepped lock with safety bolt, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring, the plate engraved with sunburst, flowers and maker?s name, walnut halfstock with flattened chequered butt, silver fore end cap and barrel wedge plates, steel mounts including spurred trigger guard, and original brass tipped ramrod with worm (brass worm cover missing). A good 6 shot 48 bore open wedge frame long spur transitional percussion revolver, 12¾? overall, octagonal barrel 6? engraved ?J Beattie, 205 Regent St, London?, London proved, the chambers numbered on the front of the cylinder from 1 to 6, with scroll engraved frame and trigger guard and off set hammer for sighting, finely chequered walnut butt with silver escutcheon engraved with the family crest of Sandeman (a rock with the motto ?Stat Veritas?) and with engraved steel cap with hinged trap. Good Working Order and quite Crisp Condition, retaining some original blued finish to barrel and traces of colour hardening to frame (the fore sight slightly damaged, minor scuffing and staining to barrel). A cased pair of double barrelled 70 bore percussion boxlock sidehammer pistols, by Whaley & Son, 7½? overall, integral round barrels 3¼? with Birmingham proofs and swivel ramrods beneath, the sighting ribs engraved ?Whaley & Son? in Gothic script, with scroll engraved frames, top straps, hammer and trigger guards, finely chequered rounded butts with engraved German silver butt caps and vacant escutcheons. Good Working Order and Condition, retaining traces of colour hardened finish to barrels and frames, one trigger guard retaining most original blueing (2 hammer noses chipped, one hammer spur detached but present, very small patches of surface rust); in their original fitted green baize lined oak case with folding brass handle in the lid and with trade label of Witton Daw & Co, 57 Threadneedle Street, London, which has written in ink in the top corners ?Pistols/11-3/ 1851? and ?Case/ 3-4/ 1851?, containing a charming copper pistol flask, 3½? overall, retaining much original lacquered finish, loading rod with worm and separate brass jag, nipple key, turnscrew, a 50 bore steel pincer bullet mould, and key to the case. A sheet silver mounted presentation type kukri, blade 13?, with short double fuller, lightly etched with 3 bands of ovoid loops, sheet silver covered stepped hilt embossed with stylized foliage in panels, the pommel set with 3 pastes, in its leather scabbard the large sheet silver locket pierced and embossed with stylized floral patterns in panels, the embossed chape with plain central panel in writhen and stylized foral border bands on both sides. Good Working Order and Condition (light pitting to barrel, traces of repaired fracture to stock, small spliced repairs to fore end with replacement fore end cap). Plate 38
