A pair of silver wired Japanese cloisonné vases Meiji period, of high shouldered form, the black grounds with silver wire decoration of a bird on a wisteria vine with mixed flowers at the base, the foot rim with shallow key pattern on a dark brown ground, 8½in. (21.5cm) high. (2) * CONDITION: Two or three minute nicks to the background enamel on one vase approx. 3.5 cm. to the left of the decoration.  Both have a little fine pitting to the surface from the making. No other damage or restoration noted.

(18cm.) high. (2) * CONDITION: Both vases have some areas of restoration to the tops of the shoulders and there is minor restoration to one foot rim.

A yellow ground Japanese cloisonné baluster vase Meiji period, of slender form, decorated in silver wire with a Ho-Ho bird with brightly coloured plumage, standing on a blue-branched and leafed tree with pale pink blossoms, 9½in. (24.2cm.) high. * CONDITION: A bruise to the shoulder to the left of the decoration - an oval approx. 3cm. wide and 2cm. high.  A little expected pitting to the surface of the enamel, from the making.

Lot 502

A Japanese cloisonné vase Meiji period, of high shouldered, oval section baluster form, the black ground body encircled by a deep band of alternate mottled grey/brown and ochre lappets set in fine silver wire with small flowers and leaves, divided at their centre by a narrow band of geometric design, the shoulders, short neck and foot rim with further decoration in red, cream and browns, 9¾in. (24.8cm.) high. * CONDITION: Small chip to top of black ground below rim. Fine pitting to decoration and some pin-head size to the grounds, all from the making. Otherwise in good condition, with no damage or restoration noted.

Lot 503

A silver wired Japanese cloisonné eight lobed twin handled covered vase Meiji period, the squat three footed body with shaped blue and blue/grey reserves set with fine silver wire decoration of wisteria, lilies, irises and prunus, on a dark blue ground and with a silver rimmed liner, 4¾ in. (12.2cm.) high. * CONDITION: Possible restoration to knob of lid. There is a small bruise and crazing to the top corner of a reserve on one lobe, and a tiny firing crack to the top of another lobe, from the making. No other damage or restoration noted.

Lot 504

A pair of slender, midnight blue ground Japanese cloisonné vases Meiji period, with silver wire decoration of two cranes amongst chrysanthemums and other flowers, the reverse with simple floral decoration, the narrow waisted and flared necks with red demi-lunes at the rims and the flared foot rims banded with scrolls on a pale blue ground, 6in. (15cm.) high. (2) * CONDITION: Some pitting to the decoration, from the making.  One vase has a 'painted-in' vertical hairline crack to the background on the right side of the decoration, approx. 2.25 cm. long. The other vase is in good condition, with just a pin head pit to shoulder and no damage or restoration noted. Both have some firing dust around the decoration.

Lot 505

A pair of red ground Japanese cloisonné vases Meiji period, of tapered ovoid form, with translucent red enamel grounds and fine silver wire decoration of three cranes flying above pink, white and blue flowers, the neck and foot with bands of ochre, beige and blue tongue and dart design, 7 3/8in. (18.7cm.) high. (2) * CONDITION: Impact marks and hairline cracks to the enamel in several places and a little distortion to both foot rims.

Lot 506

A silver wired Japanese cloisonné vase by Gonda Hirosuke Meiji period, of slender, tapered ovoid form, with fine silver wire decoration of large, long-petalled chrysanthemum blossoms on a pale blue ground, the short neck and flared foot with silver mounted rims, signed to base, 8½in. (21.5cm.) high. * CONDITION: Very small filled nick from surface enamel on reverse.  Approx. 2mm. diameter. No other damage or restoration noted.

Lot 507

A silver wired Japanese cloisonné baluster vase by Yamatada Meiji period, the midnight blue ground body with silver wire decoration of a butterfly and seven lilies and buds, the reverse with three mauve and white flowers and blue and green leaves, impressed mark to base, 6 1/8in. (15.5cm.) high. * CONDITION: A small scratch on surface of neck approx. 4 mm. long and another 10mm. scratch to shoulder. A few other lighter scratches and a few small pits from the making. No other damage or restoration noted.

A small silver wired four sided Japanese cloisonné vase Meiji period, with panels of blue, grey/green and mauve grounds depicting garden scenes with wisteria, lilies, irises, maple trees and other flowers, the shoulder and slender waisted neck decorated with stylised flowers and lappet designs, 5in. (12.5cm.) high. * CONDITION: In very good condition, with no damage or restoration noted.

A pair of midnight blue ground Japanese cloisonné vases Meiji period, the slender baluster bodies decorated in fine silver wire with a grey hawk perching on a branch of flowering prunus with grasses at the base, 7¼in. (18.5cm.) high. (2) * CONDITION: Two very small areas of unfilled enamel to one vase from the making. The other vase has a minute flake to surface of enamel to shoulder. Both vases have some very fine pitting to the surface, from the making. No other damage or restoration noted.

A pair of slender, black ground Japanese cloisonné vases Meiji period, with two gauge silver wire decoration of two large pink and white peonies and other flowers, the flared neck and foot rims edged with polychrome bands, 6in. (15cm.) high, restored. (2) * CONDITION: Both vases restored, with over-sprayed lacquer to the surface.

A four sided Japanese cloisonné silver wired vase Meiji period, with a slender waisted neck, the dark blue ground body with two light blue and two pale blue/grey reserves set with fine silver wire decoration of prunus and various flowers, 6¼in. (15.8cm.) high. * CONDITION: Very minor pin-prick pits in a few areas, from the making. Otherwise in good condition, with no damage or restoration noted.

A pair of Japanese black ground cloisonné vases Meiji period, with fine silver wire decoration of two birds on a flowering tree branch with various flowers at the base, the short everted necks with key pattern band matching that of the feet on a grey ground, 9½in. (24.2cm.) high. (2) * CONDITION: Vase 1: In good condition, with no damage or restoration noted.Vase 2: A large flake of enamel from under the foot rim.  Two small filled pits of enamel either side of white buds on top of shoulder, approx. 2.5 mm. diameter and another similar on reverse.Both vases have some kiln dust around the decoration.

A pair of blue ground Japanese cloisonné vases Meiji period, of narrow four sided form, decorated with silver wired pheasants in a prunus tree with multi-coloured flowers at the base and irises on the reverse, the short everted neck and flared foot with a band of lancets, 7¼in. (28.5cm) high. (2) * CONDITION: One vase has three very small hairlines in the enamel in the mid-blue section just above the foot. It also has a pin head size burst air bubble in the enamel to one corner of the shoulder. The other vase has three small scratches to one corner of the body. Both have the expected minor pits of unfilled enamel to surface from the making

A Japanese cloisonné silver wired vase Meiji period, of slender tapered form, with a short neck and everted rim, decorated wire with a pigeon perching in a prunus tree with irises at the foot, all on a black ground, 7 1/8in. (18cm.) high. * CONDITION: Small bruise to the shoulder on back of vase, and a few light scratches to the background. No other damage or restoration noted.

Lot 527

A silver wired Japanese cloisonné baluster vase Meiji period, with elongated slender neck and flared rim decorated overall with yellow, blue, red and green small butterflies interspersed with chrysanthemum heads, on a black ground, the neck rim with red beads and the foot with red and ochre lancets, 5 7/8in. (14.9cm.) high. * CONDITION: Dent to edge of base and tiny flakes from enamel above. A little fine pitting to surface, from the making. No other damage or restoration noted.

A pair of small four-sided Japanese cloisonné vases Meiji period, with all round decoration of mauve and white wisteria, irises and other flowers in fine silver wire, the everted neck rim and flared foot with bands of blue and white lancets, 5in. (12.5cm.) high. (2) * CONDITION: In good condition, with no damage or restoration noted. Expected very minor pin-pricks of unfilled enamel to surface from the making.

Lot 531

A pair of small Japanese cloisonné silver wire vases Meiji period, of slender ovoid form, with very narrow waisted necks, the bodies decorated with an egret amongst blue white and mauve irises, the neck and foot rims with narrow bands of varicoloured brown scales, 6in. (15cm) high. (2) * CONDITION: The decorated surface slightly dull, with kiln dust around the decoration. Pitting to waist above foot. No damage or restoration noted.

Lot 535

A pair of small black ground Japanese cloisonné baluster vases Meiji period, with all round silver wire decoration of green and white wisteria hanging from the foliage on the shoulders, the waisted neck with C-scrolls and flowers on a blue ground and alternate blue and white irises and leaves around the base, above a line of red beads, 4 7/8in. (12.5cm) high. (2) * CONDITION: Pin head sized pit on black ground exposing copper body (from the making), otherwise, expected pin prick pitting to surface, again from the making. No other damage or restoration noted.

Lot 536

A slender baluster form Japanese plique-à-jour vase Showa period, the pale green body with all round decoration of large peonies, chrysanthemums and lilies in fine silver wire, 7 1/8in. (18cm.) high. * CONDITION: Two hairline cracks up from base, approx. 2in. & 3in. long and a few other fine hairline cracks which are hardly visible, even from the inside. No other damage or restoration noted.

Lot 537

A Japanese silver wired cloisonné vase Meiji period, of slender ovoid form with waisted neck, the dark blue ground decorated with red, white and mauve carnations and foliage in fine silver wires, 9¾in. (24.7cm.) high. * CONDITION: A small bruise chip to the surface enamel on the reverse, 8 cm. from foot rim.  Approx. 3 mm. x 4 mm. in size. No other damage or restoration noted.

A large and fine Japanese Shibayama ivory lidded vase Meiji period (1868-1912), the silver mounted tusk inlaid with carved mother-of-pearl, ivory and semi-precious stones, depicting two scenes of birds beside trees with prunus, roses and other flowers, the lid with a large carved rose knob inlaid with a beetle, an applied signature plaque to one side, the tusk 10¾in. (27.3cm.) high, on a well carved five-legged hardwood stand, 20½in. (52cm.) high overall.

(24.5cm.) high.
