A Georgian & Victorian matched Scottish silver fiddle pattern canteen of cutlery, the 55 piece set in a fitted mahogany two tier box by Elkington & Co Ltd., comprising twelve dinner forks (eight by Hamilton Crichton & Co., Edinburgh 1879 and four by Lawrence Aitchison, Glasgow 1839); twelve dessert forks (six by Hamilton Crichton & Co., Edinburgh 1879 and six by Lawrence Aitchison Glasgow 1839); six teaspoons (three by Alexander Henderson, Edinburgh 1819, two by Lawrence Aitchison, Glasgow 1842 and one by George White, Glasgow 1829); twelve table spoons (ten by Hamilton Crichton & Co, Edinburgh 1879 and two by George White, Glasgow 1828); twelve dessert spoons (eight by Hamilton Crichton & Co, Edinburgh 1879 and one each by Robert Grey & Son, Glasgow 1832; George White, Glasgow 1828; Charles Lias, London 1845; and Solomon Hougham, London 1789); the ladle by Mackay & Chisholm, Edinburgh 1837, all with armorial beneath terminals with motto 'Inveniam Aut Faciam' (Either find a way or make one), gross weight 96.9 tr.oz.* Condition: All pieces in good condition, with clear marks, clean needed. Box fair/good, with major scuffing to lower edges, comes with original key.
An Edwardian silver three piece tea service, William Aitken, Birmingham 1903, comprising teapot, sugar basin and cream jug, with cut card rims and repoussé floral decoration, raised on three toed feet; together with a pair of silver sugar tongs, Walker & Hall, Sheffield 1915, gross weight 18.95 tr.oz. (4)
A near pair of German silver gilt two-masted Nefs, early 20th century, by L. Neresheimer & Co. of Hanau, with import marks for London 1912, importer's mark of Berthold Hermann Muller of Wardour St., the hulls with timbered planking and foliate scroll decoration to the bow, stowed anchors to starboard side, one with a lion's head spout, the other a female figurehead, the decks with chased foliate scrollwork and shells to the cabin astern, mounted with armed figures, cannons and ship's wheels, the rigging with climbing figures, billowing sails, decorative crow's nests, flags and hanging lanterns, on four pierced scroll wheels on dolphin supports, length 13¼in. (33.7cm.), height approx. 16in. (40.5cm.), total weight 83 tr.oz. (2)* Condition: Possibly later gilding. Both in good condition overall, with very little wear to gilding and some tarnishing to sails. Both bowsprits are bent and one probably repaired to tip. Import marks clear to both - to stern on one nef, to upper hull on the other. Maker's marks to upper hull on one nef, which are a little worn but remain legible. Crisp maker's marks to axle on the other nef.
An early 19th century Russian silver twin handled salt with provenance from Anna Pavlova, hallmarked St. Petersburg, assayer Aleksandr Ilbich Yashinov 1795-1826, maker's mark JS, the boat form salt with half gadrooned decoration, gilt washed interior and twin lion mask loose ring handles, on an oval pedestal foot with gadrooned border, 3¾in. (9.5cm.) long, weight 1.85 tr. oz.; together with a 1931 auction catalogue (see notes below). (2) * This salt was purchased from the Phillips, Son & Neale auction of the contents of Ivy House, Hampstead, on June 22nd 1931, sold on the instruction of the administrators of the Estate of the late Mme. Anna Pavlova, lot 913, catalogued as "A 3½in. repoussé silver salt cellar with lion head and ring handles".
A George III silver salver, Richard Rugg I, London 1767, circular with shaped, gadrooned rim, bold engraved crest and monogram in a foliate reserve to well, on three hoof feet, 13in. (33cm.) diameter, weight 31.5 tr.oz.* Condition: Good condition with clear marks. Two small dings and two faint line dents to main body. No repairs.
An Edwardian novelty silver sugar box in the form of a tea caddy, Jay, Richard Attenborough Co. Ltd., London 1904, of hammered effect bombe form, shaped loop handle to hinged lid, raised on four legs, hallmarked on lid/handle and main body, 3½in. (9cm.) wide, weight 5.5 tr.oz.
A Victorian Kings pattern silver table spoon, Elizabeth Eaton, London 1847, shell back, inscribed to terminal, 8¾in. (22.3cm.) long; together with two bright cut Old English pattern table spoons and an Old English pattern soup spoon, gross weight 7.9 tr.oz. (4)* Condition: All in good condition, with clear marks.
A Scottish Iona silver 'Viking long boat' spoon, Iona Celtic Art, maker's mark AR (Alexander Ritchie), Birmingham 1932, the terminal with pierced Viking boat decoration, lower section of stem with Celtic knot decoration, 4¾in. (12cm.) long, weight 0.76 tr.oz.* Condition: In very good condition overall. Marks clear. Slight ding to upper edge of terminal.
