Flake chip to enamel on rump of race horse and slight losses to grass. vertical scratch to top running vertically to left of post. Interior traces of gilt. A thin rectangular panel has been soldered over the striker.This box almost certainly commemorates the victorious 1886 season of the undefeated racehorse Ormonde (1883-1904). In this year he won the 1886 English Triple Crown: The 2000 Guineas, The Derby and St Leger Stakes in 1886. In same season he also won the St James's Palace Stakes, Champion Stakes and the Hardwicke Stakes twice.
