HRH Edward Prince of Wales (later The Duke of Windsor) Royal Presentation silver bridge pencil of flattened form, with release-button to top and original Faber pencil inside, engraved Prince of Wales feather and motto above E one side and on the other - Presented to C. F. Gibbons by HRH Prince of Wales 1914 - hallmark EB.925, 8cm long. Provenance: Given by The Prince of Wales to Mr C. F. Gibbons who was a college servant at Magdalen College, Oxford where The Prince was studying. Mr Gibbons assisted The Prince by spiriting away a girl he was entertaining in his rooms which was strictly against the College rules just before the College Proctor who had been tipped off did an inspection. To show his gratitude The Prince took his own silver pencil out of his pocket and told Gibbons he would have it engraved for him. Sold with letter of Provenance from his son
