His impressive art collection was bought by the nation after his death and became the nucleus of the collection of the new National Gallery. during his life he held a prominent position in Society and numbered amongst his friends King George III, William Pitt the Younger. Nelson, Samuel Johnson, David Garrick and Lord Palmerston. This item has been stored in a bank vault for over 50
