Turk founded his own company in 1977 in Soho with talented workmen creating one-off jewellery pieces using gold and precious and semiprecious stones.Turk was, to some degree, an eccentric, who for example would take his pet cockatoo Arthur out onto the streets of London. This eccentricity, and the lavishness of 1980’s design mixed with Art Deco inspiration, can be seen in Lots 107, 108 and 109. These pieces highlight the luminescence of their diamonds and gems and employ curving lines to a delightful effect.Turk’s younger son Dominic is involved in the business today and his elder son is Gavin Turk, one of the original celebrated Young British Artists.*A special thank you to Helen Turk for her assistance with this biographyCondition Report: Pearls: mabé pearls - white tint with with silver and pink overtones, good lustreDiamonds: bright and livelyNormal signs of wear, overall in good conditionFor pierced earsTotal gross weight approx. 20g

Both skilled craftsmen, their venture was immediately successful and by 1958 they had already set up a second workshop in New York.In the early stage of the ateliers’ career, Georland attracted the commissions of many fine jewellery maisons, most notably those at the Place Vendôme in Paris, such as Cartier, Boucheron, and Van Cleef & Arpels.During the 1960s and 70s, the company expanded into Europe with commissions from Geneva and the UK for rings, necklaces, and entire sets of jewellery. The workshop’s attention to detail, and especially their ability to set gems beautifully such as in Lots (43068-5) and (43068-28), was evident from the beginning and allowed them to make connections with customers such as Queen Sophie of Spain, Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Lady Diana who owned a platinum, sapphire and diamond necklace by Georland.Over time, Georland’s reputation expanded to the Middle and Far East and many exceptional pieces were created in the workshop, which became owned by Henry Marteau. The talent held in the atelier meant commissions were received not only for jewellery but also object d’art and even gem-set chandeliers. Henry's sons Stéphane and Jean-Gabriel joined the company in the 1990’s, bringing with them the vibrancy and drive to propel the business into the future. A renewed focus on sourcing the finest materials and increasing the use of new technology allowed the House to double their client numbers in less than ten years. A STAINLESS STEEL AND TITANIUM 'GRAND PRIX DE MONACO HISTORIQUE' WRISTWATCH, BY CHOPARD, CIRCA 201424-jewel automatic movement, circular silver dial, Arabic numerals, date aperture at 3 o'clock, black and white hands and yellow for seconds, chronometer certified, power reserve approx. 46H, brushed titanium and polished steel case, dial, case and movement signed, titanium signed buckle with folding clasp, serial no. 18700**, ref. no. 8568, with certificate of authenticity from Chopard dated 2014 and original invoice, with maker's case, outer box and booklet, case 4.4cmThe legendary House of Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in the Swiss village of Sonvilier, focusing production on pocket watches and chronometers. Chopard revolutionised watch manufacture and lead the charge on creating and selling complete timepieces instead of just the mechanical movement which had been the industry standard. Chopard quickly rose to fame and could boast elite clients such as Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. After Chopards death in 1915 the business was led by his son Paul-Louis and grandson Paul-André. The father and son leadership expanded Chopards remit to create women’s wristwatches and by 1921 had grown enough to move the business to the larger town of Chaux-de-Fonds. Finally, in 1937 production was moved to Geneva, the city whose name has since so iconically appeared on the dials of Chopard watches. In 1963 Paul-André Chopard sold the family company to the much-admired horologist and goldsmith Karl Scheufele III. Under Scheufele’s leadership the brand grew in production and popularity at an astonishing rate.A watershed moment occurred for Chopard in 1976 when Scheufele, in collaboration with in-house designer Ronald Kurowski, released the first watch to feature free-floating diamonds within the face of the piece. The pleasing dance of the diamonds as one moved their wrist proved to be a huge success and Chopard pieces are still admired and sought after today for this innovative quality. The Happy Diamond Collection of 1985 continued this trend of free-floating diamonds and was inspired by Karl Scheufele’s daughter Caroline’s sketch of a clown with a “tummy full of diamonds”. This joy and exuberance are a mainstay of Chopard design and history.Condition Report: Sapphire glass: no scratches observedBracelet: normal signs of wearCase: minor signs of wearSerial no. 1870089With certificate of authenticity from Chopard dated 2014 and original invoice, with maker's case, outer box and bookletOriginal invoice: retail price 15,850 MYR = approx. €3,240.-An external watch specialist who verifies each watch prior to each auction in order to open them, checks their working condition, mentions any potential damage, mentions any movement ref numbers etc...The movement is running at the time of cataloguing, however, it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. A GOLD AND GEM-SET BRACELET, BY ROY KING, Circa 1960The mesh-link bracelet, the clasp set with circular-cut emeralds and sapphire accented with brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in 18K gold, with maker's mark 'RCK' for Roy King,  London hallmarks, length 20.5cmRoy King was an admired and celebrated jewellery and watch designer who stands out as one of the great innovators of 20th Century British design. After a turbulent childhood King became an apprentice at the Hatton Garden jewellery firm MJ Greengross at only 14 years old in 1927. During this time King became adept at mounting diamonds and began to learn the mechanics of jewellery-making.This artistic education was somewhat disrupted with the Second World War, during which King worked as a planning engineer in an aeroplane factory. King climbed the ranks and led a department of 100 workers, while also learning complex tool techniques. This wartime experience was translated into the design and manufacture of jewellery, with King making uncredited pieces for Rolex, Cartier, Asprey, and Garrard in the latter half of the 1930s.King continued on to build his own company with a factory in Watford, Hertfordshire. He designed a plethora of jewellery pieces and was honoured with tie pins and five strawberry-leaf tiaras being worn at Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation in 1953. In 1965 King built a new factory and increased output of his work to an impressive 25,000 gold and silver pieces a year. In addition to mass production, the brand also played with aesthetic design, with their “bark finish” rings, bracelets, and watches being very popular. As a result, Pattie Boyd chose a “bark finish” wedding ring for her marriage to Beatle George Harrison in 1966. Lot 83, with its circular-cut emeralds and sapphires also shows King’s ability to create an exciting and pleasing piece. The brand continued to grow and flourish, acquiring in particular more space in the watch market. King was therefore celebrated in exhibitions at Goldsmith’s Hall such as a 1984 solo show and being included in the 1999 Treasures of the 20th Century exhibit.Condition Report: Clasp secureNormal signs of wear, overall in good conditionTotal gross weight approx. 75g
