Toko Shinoda (1913-2021) Japanese, Dimension, abstract, gouache on "Arches", signed lower right, 49.5 cm x 34 cm, framed and glazed.Ex: Tolman Gallery, Tokyo as per the following: 'Dimension, is a one of a kind original was painted on “Arches” by Toko Shinoda. Shinoda painted on the black [lithographic] area by hand. The picture was purchased from our gallery on October 17, 1997, for Yen 750,000.Ms. Shinoda put her signature with the ink and seal to authorize her original paintings.But it's common that she put a part of her signature for small drawings, such as this "Dimension," that could have only "Shino" or "桃” (a part of Toko in kanji characters) in silver.'Condition report: Good clean order.A few minor blemishes to the frame. Loose in frame and needing re-fixing.

A quantity of 'Wisteria' pattern tableware, produced by Stonier & Co. Ltd of Liverpool (Registered Number 117214 / 324028) as used by The White Star Line on its transatlantic ships, comprising salad plates, side plates, bread plates, open bowls, a milk jug and assorted cups and saucers. This collection is believed to have been used on RMS Olympic (sister ship of Titanic), in the first quarter of the 20th century (purchased by the vendor's family in 1924 from the International Mercantile Marine Company, along with a related collection of silver plated items, also in this sale), see photos for a copy of the receipt.Condition report: One side plate with a crack across its diameter, hairline crack to one saucer, hairlines to two of the three small cups, chip to rim of smaller open bowl, chip to rim or one larger cup and hairline to one other. All other items with no apparent damage.

Lot 200

A pair of cased late 18th-century eastern flintlock duelling pistols. The octagonal section barrels with overlaid stylized flowers and floral engraved lock, cock and trigger guard. The walnut pistol grips inlaid with stylized silver scrolls and foliage and are carved with the head of a dolphin below the barrel. Accompanied in the fitted case by a ramrod, cleaning rod, and mallet. The case profusely inlaid with a white metal scene of a huntsman and fleeing stag. Bearing an R.B. Rodda of Calcutta makers label to the inside of the lid. Probably made for the French market. 40 cm overall length of the pistol. 56 cm x 24 cm x 10 cm the case.Condition report: I think that these pistols probably pre-date Rodda of Calcutta but were either re-cased or the pistols were decorated by them at a later date than their manufacture.

Of White Star Line interest; a quantity of Edwardian Gorham heavy-gauge silver plated items, bearing the logo for the International Mercantile Marine Company, comprising a twin handled ice bucket, sauce boat and lidded jug, together with a similar standard sugar bowl, bearing the logo for 'America Line' (shipping), by Walker & Hall, and a quantity of further silver plated items. Some of this collection is believed to have been used on RMS Olympic (sister ship of Titanic), in the first quarter of the 20th century (purchased by the vendor's family in 1924 from the International Mercantile Marine Company, along with a related collection of Stonier tableware items, also in this sale).
