Lot 631

A Victorian oak tantalus, with three decanters, dated 1887. Width 13.5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: Decanter height 22 cm, width across base 77 mm. Two decanters are in very good order with no significant problems other than very minor surface scratches . One decanter however has a significant chip to the bottom edge of one corner which actually leaves a hole. We do not have the missing section which is about 1 cm square. This is a shame as the rest of the decanter is in very good condition. We do not have the key for the tantalus but the mechanism currently opens. The silver plating has pretty well all disappeared through to the base metal. The oak base is a very good colour and in extremely good condition. The only real issue therefore is the damage to the bottom corner of one decanter.

Lot 647

A 19th century cane, with horse hands measuring stick integral to the body, stamped "Patent". Length 36 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The rule is not brass. It is wooden with a brass and silver coloured terminal. The whole measuring stick slides into the cane itself and is captive at the base. The piece is in generally good order with no significant issues that we can see. There is a small loss to the outside edge of the measuring stick at approximately 1.25 meters but this is very minor. The cane itself has a small crack to the bottom section but again this is not problematic.

The ivory itself has numerous old stress marks and patination marks but there are no significant open or recent cracks. The metal collar below the handle is in good order. The holes for the lanyard are original and silver coloured metal mounted. The shaft is basically straight with no distortion or splitting that we can see. It is a good colour. The bottom tip is a little dented but firmly in place and in good overall condition.
