British Army 19th Hussars officer's pouch belt and pouch, the leather belt faced in gold braid/ lace with silver hallmarked attachments for the slide, buckle and pricker holder, J and C Birmingham 1897, both prickers present, together with regimental 'elephant' cap badge, battle honours for Assaye and Niagara (the only British Cavalry regiment to have this battle honour). The pouch with same 1897 hallmarks and GVR cypher. This item can be traced back to Captain Eustace Tickell HILL , son of Colonel Sir Edward Hill, KCB,MP (member for Bristol South 1886- 90). He was brought up in Glamorgan and commissioned into the 19th Hussars and later joined the 3rd Company 1st Battalion (RGH) Imperial Yeomanry in 1899 for the Boer War, served with the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars in WW1 as a remount's officer and played cricket for Somerset. Provenance provided by the Trustees of the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Trust.
