Flat side body with engraved stand of arms with central blank cartouche. Central ring neck flint cock with line edge engraving. Sliding safety bar. Steel frizzen with operating spring. Flip down trigger. Flat side, bag shape grips with silver wire inlaid scrolls. Silver hallmarked butt plates, Birmingham 1801-2 and maker "C.F.". Oval escutcheon engraved "The 1st Company Of Clackmannanshire Volunteers. Presented To Their Commanding Officer Wm Geddes Esq. In Testimony Of Their Esteem 1802". Now contained in a period mahogany case with relined fittings. Containing steel pincer mould. Wooden handled turn screw with pricker. Copper and brass priming powder flask. Captain William Geddes was appointed a Lieutenant in the 90th Foot on the 5th November 1795. Two years later he was a Lieutenant in the Clackmanan Volunteer Infantry his date of seniority given as the 27th June 1797. On the 4th October 1802 he was appointed Captain and it is possible the pistols were presented on his promotion. He is shown still serving in 1804 now with the Forfar and Kincardine Militia.
