The following lots 400-405 relate to the football career of George Robinson (Sunderland & Charlton) and comes from a direct descendent of the family George Robinson played for Sunderland AFC during the 1920s having played for Heanor before signing for Sunderland. In 1931 he was transferred to Charlton Athletic, during the iconic Jimmy Seed (Manager) Glicksten (Chairman) Sam Bartram (goalie) era. Was loaned to Burton Town (in the Midland League) during the 1933-34 season. He returned to Charlton 1934/35 season and never looked back. Played a part in Charlton return to the Second Division (1935/6 season) and in Charlton’s promotion to 1st Division 1935/36 season), he only missed one game and achieved the distinction of appearing in the side more times than any other player in the three miracle years. He missed only two of the 126 League games played. Charlton was the first team ever to rise from Third to First Division. Although nearing his retirement, he was part of the squad who went on to win the FA Cup Final against Burnley 1-0 1947 in and after his playing career was over, and went on to become assistant manager at Charlton. George Robinson is also the father-in-law of South African born Eddie Firmani (but from Italian ancestry) who played for Charlton. Eddie Firmani claims much of his success was down to his father-in-law’s patient, dedicated mentoring and invaluable experience. 1923 Heanor Football Club silver and enamel medal: Runners up medal. Note: Heanor Town Football Club owes its humble beginnings to long before their 1883 formation at the Rays Arms Hotel. Teams representing the town and playing under the name of ‘Heanor’ or ‘Heanor Town’ were recorded in 1878, but it was not until a public meeting was called in September 1883 that these fragmented issues were drawn together under one roof and the Club affiliated to the Derbyshire County FA (16grms) in original box
