Knife: American Bowie knife. Blade 6" and etched 'The United States Land of the Free and Home of the Brave protected by her Noble and Brave Volunteers'. American Eagle underneath 'Ready to Defend' '.....and nothing but wishes and to submit to nothing'. Etching faint in places. Nickel silver (?) & Mother of Pearl grips with early American Eagle relief. In its leather scabbard with a red scorpion carved in relief. Frog stud on nickel locket and chape. A nice item worthy of further research. Scarce

This man was also mentioned in Dispatches during WW1. He was Lieut Colonel of 3rd. R.W. Kent Regt., and later 2/5th L.N. LAN. Regt. (1)

Extremely rare Wittenburg POW Camp Meritorious Service Medal & 1914 Trio to 1285 Cpl. Ernest Worthington 1st Bn. L.N.Lancs. Regt, for gallant work tending to our men who contracted Typhus during the Epidemic at the Wittenburg Camp December 1914 - April 1915. MSM L/Gaz 10.6.20. Ernest Worthington was captured at La Bassee on 22.12.1914. He was repatriated on 8.9.18. MIC to FR: 22.9.14 ent. Silver War Badge. Superb research accompanies the group including full service papers, MSM card and the official report to the British Government entitled 'The Horrors of Wittenburg' from Dec 1914 to August 1915. The Germans abandoned the camp and left it to the Britain's to nurse the epidemic. The original letter with the names of those recommended for decoration is included. The 1914 Star is an unnamed example (copy?) the BWM, VM & MSM are all correctly impressed. The medals are attractively mounted with a cap badge on a display board. Fine and rare group with extensive and well presented research.

Life Saving silver Presentation Cup hallmarked for Elkington & Co., Birmingham, 1900. Weighs 11 1/2 oz approx inscription reads "Presented to Thomas H. Nicholson by some of the inhabitants of Bowness - on - Windermere in recognition of his bravery in going at great personal risk to the rescue of the persons who were in imminent danger of drowning through the breaking of the ice on Lake Windermere on the 16th day of February, 1902".
Police Bravery Award consisting of a presentation silver salver hallmarked A. Bros. Ltd. Birm, 1925 weighing 12 1/4 oz approx and a written Testimonial - the inscription on the salver reads "Presented to A.W. Verrinder Esq., by the officers of the CID Department of the Birm. City Police in ack. Of valuable service rendered by him in assisting to arrest a violent prisoner Feb. 13th, 1926".
