The arms are the Royal arms of George III incorporating the changes made with effect 1 January 1801 after, at Napoleon`s insistence, Great Britain dropped its anachronistic claim to the Kingdom of France.
A George III silver two-handled tray, by Timothy Renou, London 1797, oval form, gadroon border and handles, engraved decoration, the centre with an armorial within a ribbon tied cartouche, length handle to handle 53.3cm, approx. weight 50oz. The arms are engraved for the marriage of George Shiffner, (1762-1842), so of the MP for Minehead and grandson of the Governor of Bengal, to Mary Bridger, an heiress to a Sussex estate. George Shiffner was created a baronet in 1818, evidently succeeding to his wife`s estate at Combe, Sussex.

(2) Provenance: purchased from Bonhams, Knightsbridge, Fine Silver, 11 March 1997, lot 271. The arms are those of Carr of Dublin, impaling Gifford quartering (?) Redmond.
A pair of George III cast silver candlesticks, by Thomas Heming, London 1770, fluted tapering circular columns, with leaf capped shoulders, spool shaped capitals, on raised square bases with gadroon borders, engraved with a crest, height 27.5cm, approx. weight 46oz. (2) The mitre arising from a ducal coronet is for the Bishop of Durham, who from 1752-1771 was Richard Trevor.
A pair of George III Irish silver salvers, by John Lloyd, Dublin 1782, circular form, swag and bead border, the centres engraved with an armorial, on three shell bracket feet, the undersides with scratch weights `31=2`, and `31=12 1/2`, diameter 30.5cm, approx. weight 61oz. (2) The crest and shield are recorded for LAMBERT of Carnagh, co.Wexford. It stems from the 1683 grant of arms by Carney, Ulster King of Arms, to Patrick Lambert of Dunmain, High Sheriff of co. Wexford. Provenance: purchased from Sotheby`s, London, `The Irish Sale`, 16 May 1996, lot 314.
