A GWR Social and Educational Union, dark blue cricket cap with silver thread decoration, a top black tassel, and embroidered in silver thread on the front "GWR. S&EU 1929". Labels inside indicate it was awarded to A.E. Darby for an International Match England v Wales in 1929. In fine, original condition. How's that for a rarity!
A magnificent Cathcart District Railway Company silver 'Cutting of The First Turf' spade on a polished light fruitwood handle with carved decoration. The face of the blade is clearly engraved "Used By George Brown Esquire J.P. Provost Of The Burgh of Crosshill. Chairman Of The Cathcart District Railway Company Cutting The First Turf For The Construction Of That Railway At Crosshill On 20th January 1883 And Presented To Him By Messrs. Alexander Coghill & Company Contractors For The Works as a Memorial of The Event", and decorated with falcons and a floral design. The back of the blade displays the full Company title crest dated 1880 and is engraved with the names of the Directors of the Company. In mint condition and in its purpose-made ebonised box with a hinged glass lid. 371/2". The Cathcart District Railway opened in 1886 to operate a line from Pollockshields East to Cathcart, south of Glasgow. This spade has come to auction via the grand-daughter of the Provost. Quite superb, and a 'one-off' of course.

A magnificent Midland Railway silver-plated large, oval soup tureen, with cover, from the Midland Grand Hotel. On the side is a large circular cartouche enclosing the "MR Co" ornate lettering surmounted by the Wyvern. A decorative band around the centre; two ornate side handles; a pedestal foot. The cover has a very ornate handle. 12"x91/2"x11" tall. Quite superb, and in fine, original condition.
A Dumbarton & Balloch Joint Committee 21/4-pint silver-plated coffee pot, by Walker & Hall. The side clearly displays the intertwined "D & BJC" old style lettering. Good condition. 63/4" tall. This Company, owned jointly by the Caledonian, NBR and Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire Railway opened in 1896 from Dumbarton to Balloch. It retained its identity under the LMS and LNER. A small Company with big ideas as it had loch steamers and even official postcards. I have never seen a piece of tableware from this Company before.
A LNER Steamships silver-plated ice-bucket in the wooden barrel shape, by Elkington. The side is stamped "LNER.SS.SH" (could be from the SS "Sheringham" built by the LNER in 1926 for the Harwich service and scrapped in 1958). Outward sloping sides, 61/2" high; two top integral handles; 6" diameter at the rim. In good, original condition.
A GWR silver-plated small circular waiter's salver, possibly for correspondence. The centre displays the pre-Grouping "GWR Tregenna Castle Hotel" garter crest, in a wavy, multi concentric circles design. Four ball feet. A quality item by Mappin & Webb, replated to fine condition. The Tregenna Castle Hotel, St Ives, Cornwall was taken on lease by the GWR in 1878, purchased in 1895 and is still open in private ownership.
A GWR silver-plated flower-vase, by Elkington. An expanding column, on a heavy circular base, supports a circular 'trumpet' top. The side of the column clearly displays the full "Great Western Railway Hotels" crest. 93/4" tall. In fine, original condition with only a very small base dent.
