Surface scratching and wear commensurate with age and use. Surface has dings and dents at the widest point where it screws together and some through the pattern. Both ends have dents and nibbles and there is one deep dent to one corner of base. Marks in cover are clear including maker's mark. There are marks in the base but we have not taken the grater out to verify them
