“The Queen’s Guards Collection” from the Birmingham Mint 1977 comprising 12 HM silver proof medallions featuring Household Cavalry & Guards regiments, with 11 corresponding cap badges. EF or better (some medallion cases AF or missing, no related booklet or certificate, case backing a little stained); and a “Cap Badges of the British Army” wooden display box (empty). This lot is being sold on behalf of the Brain Tumour Research charity.
A silver coloured charm bracelet, double link chain, with tiny stage and 3 dancing girls with movable kick up legs, Alsatian dog, horse, windmill with movable sails, dancing clown, teapot with opening lid, weighing machine with opening base compartment, and miniature padlock clasp marked “silver”; all the items well modelled. A good scarce French steel barrelled flintlock blunderbuss with flattened elliptical muzzle, c 1800, 35” overall, the lightly browned barrel 19” with lightly gilt decoration consisting of borders of swags, trophy of flags and large sun in splendour; plain bright steel slightly rounded lock with swan neck cock and roller on frizzen spring; pale walnut fullstock, butt with high comb, inlaid with silver wire scrolls around the breech tang and wrist, trigger guard finial, and throat pipe; bright steel mounts include wrap around wavy edge butt plate, engraved trigger guard with urn finial, engraved flat side plate, and with bright steel ramrod. Good Working Order and Clean Condition (the cock has been fractured and repaired). Plate 6
A mid 19th century 7 bore percussion sporting gun by Teasdale of Durham, 50½” overall, barrel 34” with short octagonal section at the breech, engraved “W Teasdale, 24 Silver Street, Durham”; signed scroll engraved lock with rounded hammer; finely figured walnut halfstock with no provision for ramrod, having horn fore end cap, chequered wrist, and silver escutcheon; engraved steel trigger guard having large scrolled hand grip. A 19th century kindjal, triple fullered blade 13½”, darkened horn grips, wtih engraved Eastern silver mounts incorporating 2 large studs (all round strap missing), in its sheath with Eastern silver locket and chape nicely engraved with foliate panels on the outer side. Covering to centre section of sheath missing, otherwise GC.
A mid 19th century German 38 bore percussion target pistol, by Sauer u Sohn, 13½” overall, octagonal barrel 7½” with deep 8 groove rifling, silver inlaid “J P Sauer u Sohn a Suhl”, with small rearsight and GS foresight; scroll engraved back action lock and flat hammer, with swivelling safety catch in front of the hammer; walnut fullstock wtih horn fore end cap, and with flared finely chequered butt; steel mounts include engraved spur trigger guard housing single set trigger, engraved hexagonal butt cap, and engraved side nail plates. GWO & C (good replacement ramrod). Plate 32 .
A 6 shot 54 bore Lang type open wedge frame SA transitional percussion revolver, 12” overall, octagonal barrel 6” with plunger type rammer beneath; London proved; with reciprocating cylinder, scroll engraved frame, off set long spur hammer, top safety, one piece finely chequered walnut butt with silver escutcheon, and oval butt cap with trap. WO & generally GC (reciprocating mechanism needs attention, barrel lightly refinished, some pitting to cylinder)
A 26 bore silver mounted cannon barrelled flintlock boxlock pistol, c 1770, 12½” overall, turn off barrel 5¼”, with B’ham private proofs and maker’s mark “JJ” in rectangle; the frame engraved with foliate scrolls and spuriously signed “Jenkins, Bristol”; with sliding trigger guard safety, frizzen spring in top of breech, and bulbous walnut butt inlaid with silver wire scrolls and with unmarked silver grotesque mask butt cap. A silver mounted 54 bore tutenag (German silver) cannon barrelled flintlock boxlock pocket pistol by Moore of Andover, c 1780, 8” overall, turn off barrel 3” with Birmingham private proofs and crowned “TA” maker’s mark; frame with foliate engraving, signed in scrolls, with frizzen spring in the breech; rounded bulbous walnut butt inlaid overall with silver wire scrolls, and silver butt cap embossed with grotesque mask and shell. A 50 bore tutenag (German silver) flintlock boxlock pocket pistol by Wallis of Hull, c 1800, 6” overall, turn off barrel 1½” with fern tip engraved muzzle and dog tooth band at breech, which has Birmingham private proofs and is signed “Wallis, Hull”; rounded frame engraved with trophies of flags and musical instruments; with raised pan, top safety which locks the frizzen, hidden trigger, rounded chequered walnut butt with silver escutcheon, and engraved tutenag butt cap. Good Condition, (action works at full cock but fails to hold on half cock) Plate 11

A French brass framed and brass barrelled flintlock boxlock blunderbuss pistol with spring bayonet, by Dumarest à Paris, c 1820, 10½” overall, swamped barrel 5”, with 5” spring bayonet beneath released by sliding trigger guard, and ramrod pipes on right side; the signed frame having engraved borders; with top safety catch which locks the frizzen and flared flattened walnut butt with chequered panels, silver wire inlaid decoration down the back edge, and chevron carved band around the engraved flat steel butt cap; with a replacement steel ramrod. Good Working Order and Clean Condition. Plate 12
An Officer’s double barrelled side by side 24 bore percussion holster pistol by John Blissett, London, c 1850, 12½” overall, browned twist barrels 7”, with fern tip border around muzzles, two gold lines at breech, and engraved “John Blissett, 321 High Holborn, London, Maker to HRH the Duke of Sussex”; signed scroll engraved back action locks with safety bolts; walnut half stock with German silver barrel wedge plates and escutcheon, steel mounts including domed steel butt cap with trap, and with swivel ramrod. Very Good Working Order and Condition, barrels retaining virtually all original browned finish, the locks and mounts crisp with much original finish. Plate 13
An Officer’s double barrelled 34 bore percussion boxlock side hammer pistol with spring bayonet, by Morrison, Norwich, c 1850, 11” overall, octagonal barrels 5½”, signed on top flats, with 6½” top spring bayonet released by catch on the top strap, Birmingham proofs, swivel ramrod; with scroll engraved frame, hammers, and trigger guard, safety bolts, finely chequered rounded butt with rectangular silver escutcheon, and flat engraved steel butt cap with hinged trap. Good Working Order and Condition, dark patina overall with traces of original finish. Plate 13
A pair of Officer’s 16 bore percussion boxlock sidehammer belt pistols, c 1845, 9¾” overall, octagonal barrels 4” with traces of “Braggs, 43 High Holborn, London”; London proved; scroll engraved frames, hammers, and trigger guards, the number “362” engraved on the trigger guards and stamped on the lower frame straps; the finely chequered rounded walnut butts having oval silver escutcheons engraved with crest and motto, and with flared bases having engraved silver bands and escutcheons with monogram “AHHM”; with 3” steel belt hooks on left side, and swivel ramrods. GWO & C (lightly pitted and worn, base of one butt battered, one action requires slight attention). Note: Braggs were at 43 High Holborn only from 1843-1847. The crest and motto belong only to the Mercer family. A Lieutenant A H H Mercer was gazetted in 1847, and gazetted Major in the 89th Foot in 1856.
A cased .38” rimfire Woodward’s patent double barrelled over and under turnover pistol, number 774, 4½” overall, barrels 2¼ with Birmingham proofs and traces of blued finish; silver plated frame engraved in oval panel “Woodward’s Regd. Feby.4. 1863 No 774”; with sheath trigger, top safety catch, and chequered walnut grips. Good Working Order and Condition; in its fitted blue baize lined mahogany case, walnut veneered lid with shield and scroll escutcheon, containing a pewter oil bottle and key to the case. Plate 15
A good cased .30” rim fire Sharps patent 4 barrelled pistol by Tipping & Lawden, number 4027, 5½” overall, barrels 3” with Birmingham proofs and retaining much original blued finish (bore sight missing); silver plated bronze frame stamped “Tipping & Lawden Sharps’ Patent” around the hammer screw; with foliate embossed black ebonite grips. Good Working Order and Clean Condition; in its fitted blue baize lined mahogany case, the walnut veneered lid with shield shaped brass escutcheon, containing a steel cleaning rod. Plate 15
A good 16 bore double barrelled over and under percussion boxlock side hammer belt pistol, by F. Barnes & Co. London, c 1850, 8½” overall, round barrels 3” with Birmingham proofs, signed on the flat top, and with swivel ramrod beneath; finely scroll engraved frame, hammers, and trigger guard, and with belt hook on the left side; finely chequered walnut butt with silver escutcheon and butt cap with trap. Good Working Order and Condition, the engraving crisp, traces of original finish overall. Plate 15
An extremely rare combination flintlock blunderbuss carbine/ pistol/ gun/ walking stick, c 1760, the frame, breech and trigger guard with acorn finial of tutenag (German silver) engraved with scrolls and foliage, signed “London”, with sliding safety catch in front of the trigger guard, and with Birmingham private proofs; the detachable shoulder stock for use either with the 6” steel blunderbuss “cannon” barrel or the 32½” smooth bore gun barrel, breech and gun barrels having interrupted threads for rapid attachment or removal; the small ball pistol butt when screwed into the gun barrel forms the handle of the walking stick, for which purpose there is a push in metal muzzle plug which forms the end. Good Working Order and Condition. Note: this is the actual piece illustrated in “Blunderbusses” by Baxter, published by the Arms and Armour Press in 1970, plates 55 and 56. Plate 22
