Lot 674

The first F.A. Amateur Cup final of 1894-95: a silver-gilt runners-up medal awarded to C.O.S. Hatton of Casuals, inscribed THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION AMATEUR CUP, RUNNERS UP, in original Vaughton's fitted case inscribed THE AMATEUR CUP, 1894-5; sold with a photocopied match report (2) Casuals were defeated 2-1 by Old Carthusians in the first ever F.A. Amateur Cup final played at Richmond before 3500 spectators on 7th April 1894. Although on the losing side, contemporary reports pick out the full back Hatton as having an outstanding game. Casuals started the match with only 10 men after Lodge had missed his train. Kick-off was delayed for 20 minutes and Lodge finally took to the field of play after 15 minutes.

A group of three London Charity Cup medals won by C.O.S. Hatton of Casuals, a 9ct. gold & enamel medal for 1903-04, and two silver & enamel medals for 1893-94 and 1900-01, all in original Vaughton's fitted case; sold with a photocopy of the early history of the London Charity Cup including a report on Casuals beating Old Westminsters 2-1 in the 1894 final. BATIGNANI awarded as civic honours by the administration of San Jose for the 1928 Olympic win; and a gold & enamel medal commemorative medal named to J.P.ARREMOND in honour of the 1928 Olympic victory; a silver plated & enamel commemorative medal produced for the general public after the 1924 Olympic triumph; and a similar commemorative medal in silver plate celebrating the double victories of 1924 & 1928; the lot also including an original b&w photograph of Hector Scarone scoring a goal in the 1928 Amsterdam final; and two testimonial presentation plaques, the first from the Uruguayan Olympic Committee to the 1924 Olympic gold medal winning footballer Roberto Figueroa, an inscribed brass plaque dated 19th June 1987, on a red velvet backboard, in original fitted case, 17 by 23 cm., 6 3/4 by 9 in., the other a silver plated, bronze and enamel plaque presented to the Uruguay 1950 World Cup winning physical fitness trainer Romeo Vazquez, on a maroon velvet backboard, 13 by 19 cm., 5 by 7 1/2 in. (9) Asdrubal Casas was a delegate at the 1924 Games in Paris. Adhemar Canavasi, Fausto Batignani and Juan Arremon were all members of the gold medal winning football team at the Amsterdam Olympics in 1928.
