A matched pair of George III / George IV silver wine coasters, one by Benjamin Smith II and James Smith III, London 1810, the other by James Edington, London 1829, circular form, pierced and chased with trailing grapevines and bunches of grapes, with an egg and dart border, silver bases engraved with an armorial, on wooden bases, diameter 13.2cm, height 7.9cm and 7.4cm. The arms are those of Crofts of Suffolk impaling another, possibly Banaster.
A matched set of twelve silver soup plates, ten by Sebastian Garrard, London 1929, two by William Hutton and Sons, Sheffield 1932, circular form, gadroon border, engraved with an armorial, diameter 24.7cm, approx. weight 262oz. (12) The arms are those of Albert Holden Illingworth of Bradford. Born May 1865, he was a partner in his family`s textile company and was elected to parliament in 1915. The following year he was elected post master general and a Privy Councillor. He was raised to peerage in 1921 and married twice, but died without issue in 1942.
A George III silver epergne on a mirror plateau, by Matthew Boulton, Birmingham 1810, tapering circular form, with a central bowl support with trailing grapevines, and lion mask capped tapering fluted legs with acanthus leaf decoration, terminating in paw feet, with a shaped base with a cone finial and from which appear four scroll arms each with a pierced foliate bowl support, gadroon border, with a central cut glass bowl and four smaller cut glass bowls, the mirror plateau of rounded rectangular form, gadroon border on four hoof feet. The mirror plateau and the interior are discretely engraved with three inscriptions, `This slight but sincere testimonial of indelible gratitude to William Adam Esq is presented to his dearly beloved daughter Mrs Clementina Adam Thompson 1812` , `All speculation respecting the donor will be forever fruitless, the tribute is paid alone to the sentiment` and `Who builds a church to god and not to fame, never inscribes the marble with his name`, in a fitted wooden case, height including bowl 32.5cm, width arm to arm 60cm, morror plateau 66cm x 41cm, approx. weighable 96oz
