S. S. B.-P. / 1906 W G Avis 3DG', also together with two later photographs of the recipient.* Notes - The Inter-regimental Reconnaissance Competition was Held at Aldershot in 1906 by Baden -Powell in order ' to obtain efficiency in horsemanship, scouting and dispatch riding, under pressure akin to active service' in which team were given the task of travelling over a course of 25 to 55 miles per day over three days by use of maps. Private Avis was a member of the 3rd Dragoon Guards team under Capt L Partridge, winning the 3rd brigade prize.
