A good quality double barrelled 30 bore flintlock sporting gun, by W Mills, London, c 1820, 45” overall, rebrowned twist barrels 29½” with 2 gold lines and gold maker’s poincons at breech, top rib engraved “Gun-Maker-to-his-Royal-Highness-the-Prince-of-Wales”; signed stepped locks finely engraved with fern tip borders, scrolls and flower heads, and having rainproof pans and rollers on frizzen springs; figured ash (?) halfstock having chequered wrist, silver barrel wedge plates and blued steel mounts including large trigger guard engraved with game birds in foliage and with pineapple finial, and foliate engraved butt plate tang; horn tipped ramrod having brass mounted concealed worm. Near VGWO & C, the locks crisp and retaining some colour hardened finish (small crack in the stock below one lock).
