A Victorian silver salver of typical form with beaded edge, scroll and claw feet, Walter & John Barnard, London 1882, diam. 39cm, wt. 37oz. Condition - good, appears free from any inscriptions, general wear to include dings to top, one of which has slightly pressed through and visible to base, feet appear free from any damage or repairs.
An official Moroccan red leather silver mounted despatch or ministerial case with key, having oval plaque with George III monogram, the silver hallmarked with makers mark ‘BS’, probably Benjamin Smith and date letter ‘G’ (presumably London 1802, though lacking essay mark). Provenance - by family descent, reputedly a gift from Queen Victoria to a staff member, possibly William Saunders, see The Royal Kalendar and Court and City Register England, Scotland, Ireland and the Colonies for the Year 1844, page 147, listed as ‘housekeeper of the state apartments, St James’s, under Queen’s Household, Gentlemen of the Privy Chamber.
