An 18th century Russian silver box and cover, Fyedor Petrov, assay master Adrei Andreyev, Moscow 1776, of compressed oval form, the sides and hinged cover chased with rococo mantling around cartouches, raised on four feet, the hinged cover mounted with a later rare medallion, 14cm wide, 9oz 9dwt The medallion is by A. Abramson, 1783, and commemorates the union of Crimea and Kuban with Russia. The obverse with a portrait of Catherine II, on the reverse the personified landscapes Crimea and Kuban kneel before Minerva with cornucopia and oil branch over S KLOPMAN, MDCCLXXXIII.Hinge not of the greatest quality and cover does not shut well. See images of the medallion for condition. Box with minute traces of gilt. Small repair to seam.
