Two rare Georgian 'Coque de Perle' necklaces, mid 18th century, each designed as a collar set with oval 'coque de perles', suspending a central pendant, one set in silver set with marcasite, one in gilt metal, each with hoops intended for a fastening ribbon, marcasite necklace length 29cm, pendant length 8.1cm, gilt necklace length 31.5cm, length of pendant 6cm, pendant detachable, both with original fitted cases 'Coque de perle' is the term given to a composites of domed shell, stabilised with a cement and backed with mother of pearl, which were popular for their high iridescence. Cf.: a Coque de Perle and diamond necklace dated c.1740-60 from the collection of Dame Joan Evans, in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, accession no. M.151&PART-1975

‡ Naum Slutzky, a rare Modernist silver ring, 1962, designed as a trio of partially articulated silver bars, to a silver band with panelled shoulders, size P, maker's mark for Naum Slutzky, case stamped Horton Naum Slutzky (1894-1933) was born in Ukraine, the son of Gilel Slutzky, a goldsmith in the employ for Carl Fabergé. Naum Slutzky trained as a goldsmith under Josef Hoffman at the Wiener Werkstatte, before joining the Bauhaus. He fled to England in 1933 as a result of the Nazi rise to power, and eventually taking a series of posts as a lecturer in jewellery design in London and Birmingham, starting at the Central College of Art (now St Martin's), and participating in the seminal 1961 International Jewellery Exhibition at Goldmith's Hall. He initially planned to exhibit his early Bauhaus pieces, but instead exhibited recent designs, in a strikingly modernist style, which were subsequently purchased by the Goldmith's Hall.
