Lot 727

Collection of Cantonese white metal trumpet-shape specimen vases, some probably Wing Fat, 16cm and smaller, some with glass linings, some weighted bases. Qty: 18 Condition report:There are 11 vases all approximately 14cm in height, but with some height variation. Four of the eleven have glass liners, although one is heavily chipped. They all have weighted bases, although one has fallen out so the weight of that vase (without the weight) is 54.5g, so as an estimate the gross silver weight may be in the region of 600g. The marks to the inner rim of the neck are mostly rubbed. Soe have repairs to the rims, and are distorted a little at the base of the vase.There are four spill vases with pierced cylindrical body raised on three bamboo style feet, with bamboo leave bodies, and two similar shape vases but with a prunus design to the body and feet. The shape of these varies and some no longer stand upright. Two of the bamboo design vases are missing a bamboo leaf at the top of their supports. All have their glass liners although they are quite ill-fitting. Each weighs approx 35g, so approximately 210g in total. Marks partly rubbed. The dragon embossed vase is 68g, more clearly marked, shape generally good. Height 16cm.

Victorian silver mounted glass claret jug, Hukin & Heath, Birmingham 1898, domed lid with plain thumbpiece, loop handle, ovoid cut glass body, height 24cm.Condition report:The silver mount is very good, hinge works nicely and the cover closes flush. The glass body is essentially sound and free of any significant chips. There are some random inclusions in the glass to the body. The base of the handle has a very small polished section, about 3mm. Some surface scratching to the body.

Set of four George IV silver salts, makers mark worn, London 1820, circular with beaded edge, embossed with scrolls and on three lion mask and paw feet, diameter 9.5cm, 18.1ozt in total.Qty: 4Condition report:The shape of all four is generally good, some slight shape distortion to the rims and some of the feet have been slightly distorted but all four still stand well on a surface. The interiors have some quite heavy surface wear and tarnishing/ corrosion. Some thinning of the colour to the gilt interiors. Two of the salts have more clear marks - the maker maybe BS in Gothic script for Benjamin Smith III.

George II silver coffee pot, Thomas Rush, London 1731, lid with acorn finial, fruitwood handle, tapering body with engraved coat of arms, 24cm, 29ozt.Condition report:There is a large engraved crest to on side, and a small engraved eagle to the cover. The walls retain a good gauge. Repairs to the base. Possible repair to the base of the handle. A crude historic repair to the hinge, and a small hole exists on the lid in the area of repair. Spout slightly misshapen. Marks read well, scratch weight is also visible to underside of the base. The cover is not marked. Slight compression of the finial on the cover. Split near the thumb scroll to the handle. Slight movement in the handle.

Dings and dents to the shape of the teapot and smaller distortions to the jug and sugar. Some shape distortions to the foot of the coffee pot. Rattan handle to the coffee pot has become loose in the binding.

Hallmarks remain crisp, slight rubbing to the marks on the teapot. The finial and handle are a little dry. Blank cartouches do not appear to have been polished.

Albert Einstein (Ulm 1879 - Princeton 1955)Beautiful large photographic portrait with autograph dedication signed “A. Einstein”, dated 1929, to Luigi Ansbacher (1878-1956). Luigi was son of Bernardo Ansbacher (1833-1914), German Jew, who was a close friends of the Einstein family. At the end of 1895 until 1905 Einstein family spent some periods between Pavia and Milan which he recalled as “the most beautiful memories” of his youth. In the same year of this dedication, Max Planck presented Einstein with the Max Planck medal of the German Physical Society in Berlin for his extraordinary achievements in theoretical physics.
