A pair of George III silver candlesticks by Ebenezer Coker, London 1769, with detachable nozzles, having foliate and knopped stems from a square moulded base with acanthus corners, initialled M., 26cm high, approximate total weight 32oz. Provenance. These candlesticks were formally owned by Harry Moger who was the goalkeeper at Manchester United between 1904 and 1912, as part of his proceeds from a benefit match on his retirement. They came into the present owners possession in the 1950`s by direct descent. Included in this lot are various photographs of Moger as a child and and press cuttings showing him with the team and correspondence between the vendor and the curator of the Manchester United museum and Tour centre.
