Reference: S.3931 Composition: Silver Alexandrina Victoria had just turned 18 when she became Queen of the British Empire in June 1837, upon the death of her uncle William IV. Her reign of 64 years beat her grandfather George III's for the longest in history and saw many important events during which the British Empire was on its zenith. Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Saalfeld in February 1840 but he died in December 1861. During their 20 years together Victoria borne 9 children that married into royal and noble families across Europe and lived long lives, which gave Victoria the nickname 'Grandmother of Europe'.
