A NEAR PAIR OF CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE VASES AND TWO SAUCE BOATS 18TH CENTURY The vases with pear-shaped bodies decorated with panels of flowers in a rockery and vases, the silver-shaped sauce boats decorated with landscapes with pagodas, pine trees and blossoming magnolias on the inside and stylised floral borders to the exterior, 20.6cm max. A SMALL KOREAN SILVER-INLAID IRON CABINET 19TH CENTURY The rectangular body with a pair of hinged doors decorated with geometric plaques beneath a frieze of roundels and flanked by panels decorated with Buddhist emblems, the sides and reverse undecorated, 32.5cm x 30cm x 18.5cm.

A LARGE CHINESE GREY-GREEN JADE ARCHAISTIC FANG GUI MING DYNASTY The deep rectangular-section body carved with protruding studs around a wide central band, the two C-shaped dragon masks handles with large ears and hooked pendants. The flared rim carved in shallow relief with a narrow frieze with stylised mythical beasts facing the central masks, the tall foot with a band of galloping horses and stylised rocks, together with a hardwood stand inlaid with silver wire with lion dogs and a six character Chenghua mark, 23.5cm. (2) Provenance: formerly in the Rutherston collection, Exhibited at the Exhibition of Chinese Art in New Zealand 1938 and the Victoria and Albert Museum 1927-1934, and then sold by Bluett & Son at the opening day of their exhibition on the 1st March 1948, catalogue no.134, to Sydney L Moss for £85. The fang gui was subsequently acquired by J P Love, in whose collection it remained until 1965 when it was then again sold by Sydney L Moss Ltd, on the 31st December 1965 for £350. Cf. H Tsao, Jade des Empereurs Å• L'Art Déco, p130-131 for a closely related fang gui in the collection of the Musée National du Château de Fontainebleau, no. F1508C.
A SMALL JAPANESE KOMAI-STYLE BOX AND COVER MEIJI 1868-1912 In the shape of a karabitsu (a traditional treasure chest), the body decorated with sakura flowers, buds and scrolling leaves inlaid in silver and gold on a dark ground, raised on six elegantly curved legs, the base inscribed Yoshitoyo saku (made by Yoshitoyo), 12.1cm. A TIBETAN JADE AND SILVER-COLOURED METAL PENDANT QING DYNASTY OR LATER The body formed from an archer's ring inscribed with a poem by the Qianlong emperor including the date Qianlong ren chen, corresponding to 1768, the mounts and tassel set with turquoise and coral beads, 4cm.
A SMALL CHINESE BRONZE TRIPOD INCENSE BURNER PROBABLY LATE QING DYNASTY The compressed circular body with loop handles raised on three tall legs, inlaid with silver-wire with key fret to the body, ruyi-heads to the neck and stylised banana leaves to the legs, the base with a two character shi sou mark, 11cm.
A CHINESE SILVER-WIRE INLAID BRONZE INCENSE BURNER QING DYNASTY The compressed ovoid body with two lug handles and raised on a short flared foot, inlaid with silver wire depicting archaistic taotie designs, cloud scrolls and key fret above a band of stylised dragons, the base with a six character Xuande mark dividing a two character shi sou mark, with a carved hardwood ruyi stand and cover, the cover with a pale celadon jade finial carved as a fish, 19.8cm. (3) Cf. R S Jenyns & W Watson, Chinese Art, p.92, no.58 where a related incense burner with comparable decoration is illustrated.
A JAPANESE NAMBAN LACQUER CASKET MOMOYAMA 1573-1615 The domed hinged lid and body decorated with panels containing mother of pearl flowerheads and gold and silver hiramaki-e leaves on a black lacquer ground, the borders with bands of geometric designs, with copper fittings engraved with stylised flowers and leaves, the inside lined with green velvet, 15.7cm x 13.4cm x 22.4cm. Provenance: the collection of Lady Ottoline Morrell and thence by descent. Cf. O Impey & C Jörg, Japanese Export Lacquer 1580-1850, p.107 no.179 for a related chest with similar decoration and fittings. Also Christie's London, 11th May 2015, lot 1 and Harvard Art Museum, accession no.1996.242.10, for two other comparable namban coffers.
