Feliks Topolski (Polish-British 20th Century, 1907-1989), Grays Inn, print, signed bottom right, numbered 92/275 bottom left, framed. Measurements 67 x 52 cm, framed measurements 74.7 x 59 cm. Feliks Topolski (1907-1989) was a Polish born artist who became a British citizen in 1947, spending the rest of his life in London where he maintained a studio near to Waterloo station. He studied art at the Warsaw Academy before moving to the UK in 1935 to complete a commission recording King George V's silver jubilee. He was appointed as an official war artist during World War Two, travelling abroad to paint numerous battles including the Battle of Britain. In 1959 Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, commissioned Topolski to create a mural of Elizabeth II's coronation which comprised 114 friezes of the procession. Topolski achieved success in his own lifetime, known for his pictoral record of policical and social events, particularly his Chronicles , and also completed many portraits of well-known figures including H.G. Wells, Harold Macmillan, Aneurin Bevan and Winston Churchill.
