CYCLING - A COLLECTION OF FORTY-SIX MEDALS awarded to Clarence John `Jack` Wicks, circa 1940s-50s, most of Reading (Berkshire) area interest, many silver and some enamelled, including also two won during the Festival of Britain. Note: Clarence Wicks was born in 1917. He won his first cycle race in 1931 and was a member of both the Reading Wheelers and Bon Amis [Reading] Cycle Clubs. His home track was at Palmer Park, in the east of the town, but he also competed regularly on grass at the Reading Aero Club and at Slough. Among his many successes was the annual club track championship which he won in 1947, 1948 and 1949, earning him the trophy outright (see the following lot).
