A pair of George I silver candlesticks by Joseph Bird London 1719 each raised on a spreading hexagonal foot tapering upwards to the knopped stem supporting the hexagonal sockets marked to the base and with the town mark to the socket engraved with armorials also with later unmarked nozzles 18.75cm high (stick only) 21.75cm (with nozzles) 26.75oz (31oz with nozzles) Family Records of the present owner indicate specifically in a 1947 inventory that the arms are those of Hafodunas and that their then owner had come by them as heir to his mother Mary Elizabeth Wynn Griffith whose own grandmother had been heiress of Penllech and Hafodunas. The (Wynn) Griffiths of Llanfairisgaer were extensive landowners in Anglesey Caernarvon and Merioneth. Members oftimes filled the post of Sheriff (the earliest recorded being that in Anglesey 1395/61) and Receiver General (of the Royal Rents) for North Wales (at various times from 1631 onwards). A collection of family papers rent rolls etc from the 16th century onwards is held in the National Library of Wales
