HEROES OF THE FLAMESOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine on Linen Universal, 1931The stunning stone litho one sheet offered here from the series' penultimate chapter, bringing the heat with its bold colors and dynamic design, features McCoy performing a heroic and dangerous rescue, a rare piece that shows him in action as something other than a cowboy. Prior to restoration, this poster had previous issues including fold and cross-fold wear, chipping, and pinholes in the corners. There have also been sporadic touch-ups to the backgrounds, plus some airbrushing including to the lower part of the dress around the center point cross fold, and the borders have been airbrushed. The poster now presents splendidly.Heroes of the Flames (1931), a serial starring Tim McCoy, best known for his cowboy roles, is Bob Darrow, the inventor of a new kind of chemical fire extinguisher, who must protect himself and his invention from the depredations of the evil Don Mitchell (Gayne Whitman), who wants not only Darrow's formula but his girlfriend, June Madison (Marion Shockley), as well. Unsurprisingly, many of the cliffhangers in this serial involve major characters trapped in burning buildings, requiring the heroic efforts of local firefighters to rescue them. Though lost for decades, a single print of this film was recently discovered and subsequently preserved by Universal. It's notable for McCoy's performance and early appearances by future Western stars Andy Devine, Walter Brennan, and Bruce Cabot. McCoy was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 and passed in 1978, leaving behind a legacy as one of the great Western stars of the silver screen. ANIMAL HOUSEBlue Crew Hooded Sweatshirt & Dark Blue Crew T-Shirt (Small & Large); Tim Matheson Collection Autographed by Tim MathesonVery Fine+ Universal, 1978This lot contains a t-shirt given to the cast/crew of Animal House and an exclusive original hoodie. The 100% cotton shirt has the Greek fraternity lettering in the center on the front and the words "Animal House" on the back in the upper area. The hoodie has artwork on both sides including the Delta Tau Chi Crest on the front right side and the words "Animal House" along with the Greek fraternity lettering on the back. Both items are from the Tim Matheson Collection and are autographed personally by Tim with his character "Otter" added underneath in silver sharpie. Both the hoodie and t-shirt are in good condition with only a light bit of typical age fading. There is some stitching coming out from the corners of the front pockets of the hoodie that can be repaired quite easily. There are no defects nor fraying of the collar, sleeves, or bottom, and both the images and autographs display well.As well as being the first film produced by the popular humor magazine National Lampoon, John Landis' college campus comedy Animal House also launched the big-screen career of Saturday Night Live star John Belushi. Also, its unashamedly low-brow laughs effectively gave birth to the gross-out subgenre. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 285

STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACKOne-Sheet, Test Proof (27" x 41"); 15th Anniversary Silver Mylar, Style AVery Fine Rolled; Artist Dayna Stedry Kilian Enterprises, R-1995This scarce early version of the Empire Strikes Back 15th Anniversary poster featuring Boba Fett and printed on heavy glossy mylar paper is sought after by fans as it is the silver "Test Proof" version that was unused. Only five were printed and it was then decided by Kilian Enterprises that the gold variation would be better to use for the commercial sale of the posters. A fantastic and hard-to-find original piece of Star Wars poster history that rarely comes up for auction. This is the test printing of the 15th Anniversary Kilian poster. It has a crimp in the upper right side and minor crimps within the image. The poster still displays magnificently. The stunning sequel to Star Wars, directed by veteran helmer Irvin Kershner. Widely considered to be the best episode in the saga, it benefitted hugely from bringing in screenwriter Leigh Brackett (The Big Sleep, Rio Bravo) to co-write with Lawrence Kasdan, and also for its unforgettable final twist. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Both 100% cotton, these shirts are from the Tim Matheson Collection and are both autographed personally by Tim with his character "Loomis" added underneath in silver sharpie. Two t-shirts in good condition, with only a slight bit of typical age fading. There are no defects nor fraying of the collars, sleeves, or shirt bottoms, and the artwork and autographs display well. This rare foray into comedy by Steven Spielberg follows the madcap mishaps surrounding a misguided Japanese attack on the Californian coast. Its impressive cast includes Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Christopher Lee, Toshiro Mifune and Ned Beatty. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. Lot 33

'BLUE BLAZES' RAWDENOne-Sheet (28" x 41"); Tim Matheson CollectionVery Fine on Linen Artcraft Pictures Corp., 1918There were two styles of one sheets to this Western film and this style we've not seen before. A wonderful image of the early Hollywood star in a beautiful stone litho image. The poster had tiny tears on the border. There have been sporadic airbrushing to the borders and slight touchups to fold wear and a small horizontal tear just under the upper border. The poster now presents well and displays beautifully.William S. Hart's success story is rare even today, just as it was back then. In 1907, he left his successful career as a Broadway Shakespearean actor to venture into the unknown potential of the silver screen, appearing as Messala in the first cinematic version of Ben Hur. It wasn't until seven years later, with his leading role in The Bargain, that he gained instant popularity and became one of Hollywood's first big stars at the age of fifty. Hart's focus on historical accuracy, true stories of real-life pioneers, and a gritty morality made his Westerns extremely popular at the box office until newer stars like Tom Mix introduced fast-paced, flashier shows. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

BLAZING SADDLESOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Mint Folded; Artist John Alvin Warner Bros., 1974A poster featuring Cleavon Little on horseback as the local sheriff in Mel Brooks' comedic western spoof features some of John Alvin's most inspired artwork. This beautiful image poster is professionally mounted on linen and the fold-lines have been touched up.Mel Brooks wrote and directed with a star-studded cast, including Little, Brooks, Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman, Madeline Kahn, Slim Pickens, and Alex Karras, the film had its problems during production, including a number of battles over content with Warner Brothers executives, but emerged as one of greatest comedies ever to grace the silver screen. Nevertheless, audiences responded at the box office, making it only the tenth film up to that time to pass $100 million dollars in total ticket sales. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. THE INVISIBLE BOYOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine- on Linen; Artist Mort Kunstler MGM, 1957With all of that, however, this is the only poster on which he is featured, making this an avidly sought collectible for robot fans everywhere. This fan-favorite one sheet on linen, with dynamic artwork by Mort Kunstler, displays deep, rich colors, making it a perfect, and very desirable piece, a wonderful addition to any collection. n. This poster has been professionally mounted to linen with touchup applied to the upper horizontal fold and some small amount of paper loss in the upper cross fold. There has been minor touchup to the borders. The poster displays beautifully. This popular science-fiction film, about 10-year-old Timmie (Richard Eyer), who teams up with an advanced robot to save the earth from a malevolent super-computer, stars Robbie the Robot, one of the best-known automatons of the silver screen - who stole the show in Forbidden Planet (1956) - in his second appearance (apparently, Robbie was so expensive to build that MGM felt they needed to feature him in another project to justify the costs). This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 7th.

This poster, now on linen, has had restoration to previous issues, including edge and fold wear with tearing, chipping, creasing, separation, and some light paper loss. There have been touch-ups to both fold wear and to sporadic spots and now the poster displays well.Clayton Moore is fondly remembered by an entire generation of fans as the Lone Ranger, the Masked Rider who roamed the plains with his Indian partner Tonto (Jay Silverheels), fighting for truth and justice in the old West. Armed with his signature silver bullet, which served as a reminder of the value of human life, the Ranger valiantly battled the forces of evil on both the small and big screens. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. Oudry dp Editeur, 7.5cm high, 9cm wide, 7.5cm deep; a Chinese export famille rose travelling teapot, early 20th century, in wicker carrying case, 14cm high; two sepia photographs of Lea Hurst, Derbyshire, the childhood home of Miss Nightingale; postcards to Fanny Pettit from the family and housekeeper of Miss Nightingale; an entry ticket and order of service for Miss Nightingale’s memorial service at St Paul’s Cathedral in 1910; a fundraising pamphlet for the Hospital for Invalid Gentlewomen; a framed photograph of Miss Nightingale in bed originally by Lizzie Caswall Smith in 1910; a collection of contemporary newspaper cuttings collected by Fanny Pettit relating to the life of Miss Nightingale; and a studio portrait photograph of Fanny Pettit taken c.1909 (lot)  Provenance: From Eliza Francis "Fanny" Pettit and then by descent. Footnotes: Note: Florence Nightingale, 1820-1910, known as the “The Lady of the Lamp”, was a British nurse, social reformer and statistician who is best remembered as the founder of modern nursing.  Her experiences as a nurse during the Crimean War were foundational in her views about sanitation.  She established St. Thomas’s Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses in 1860.  She is recognised as one the greatest Victorians and a female icon in her own lifetime. This highly personal collection has been passed down through four generations of the vendor's family from Eliza Francis “Fanny” Pettit (later Gibbs), who was Florence Nightingale's lady companion for two years in 1906 and 1907 and lived with Miss Nightingale at 10 South Street, Park Lane, London. When Fanny left Miss Nightingale’s employ, she was gifted two personal items by the great lady as a personal thank you for her service, a travelling teapot and a silver plated tea caddy.By all accounts, Fanny was highly regarded by both Miss Nightingale and her family and after leaving Miss Nightingale's employment at the end of 1907 to get married, she was subsequently invited with her new husband to spend their honeymoon at the family’s country estate, Lea Hurst, in Derbyshire, where Miss Nightingale grew up.Fanny's daughter, Eileen, was christened with the middle name Florence, in honour of Miss Nightingale, on the day that Fanny was informed by letter that Florence Nightingale had passed away.  In perhaps the most poignant item in the collection, this letter recounts Miss Nightingale’s final moments and how she was invited, by Elizabeth Bosanquet the housekeeper at South Street, to see Miss Nightingale at rest.  The letter, as transcribed below, is a moving reflection of the high regard Fanny was held in. Dear Fanny,This is sad news for you to have heard on the day of your little baby's christening.I know how deeply you will feel it but I hope you will bear up for the baby's sake.If you return in time and can manage to come round, I think you would like to look on Miss Nightingale's peaceful face. She passed away quietly at 2pm yesterday resting on her pillows just as she had been placed the night before.A change came during the night and we had to send for the doctor and knew it was grave and sent to the relations. It was very peaceful and merciful and one is so thankful she slept away with no suffering. We shall all be the better for her wonderful influence.Yours faithfullyElizabeth Bosanquet. Fanny was subsequently invited to Miss Nightingale's memorial service in St. Paul's Cathedral which was held one week after her death on 20th August 1910.The two photographs are informal snapshots of Miss Nightingale. They are thought to be the last images of the nurse taken in her old age at her house at 10 South Street, Park Lane by Fanny using her Brownie camera and have never been published. They were exhibited in “Nightingale In 200 Objects, People & Places”, at the Florence Nightingale Museum in London, 8 March 2020 - 7 March 2021, celebrating the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The three prescriptions were also on loan in the same exhibition at the Florence Nightingale Museum and were displayed as “Item 130”.  During the Crimean War Miss Nightingale contracted brucellosis, a bacterial infection which causes fever, joint pain, extreme fatigue, and depression. The infection became chronic and as a result Miss Nightingale experienced recurring episodes of illness for the rest of her life.  She spent most of her later years at her home in South Street.  Towards the end of her life Miss Nightingale was supported by Fanny Pettit, who helped Nightingale with daily tasks such as taking her medications.  Fanny kept these prescriptions as a keepsake when Miss Nightingale passed away.
